Abused By Immigration At Suvarnabhumi

Recommended Posts

Why would they abuse people? You want real abuse, try LAX or YVR .

Swampy has big problems, but the immigration desk jockeys seem to be too unmotivated to muster much more than an unfriendly sneer

So, what happened to you? C'mon now, spill the sordid details and don't leave out the juicy parts.

Abuse is a strong word.

Before retirement I went in and out of Don Maung and swampy 4 or 5 times every month for maybe 8 or 9 years. I experienced the occasional but mild 'bad hair day' officer. But lets be honest we all have the occasional 'bad hair' day.

A little unfriendly?, yes sometimes. But I certainly never saw anybody get abused, not once.

I recall flying into Melbourne several years ago and there was a very short and very broad lady in a broad brimmed Australian hat with a full size megaphone who was getting herself real worked up because most of the vast crowd was not instantly complying with her 'orders' that people from various flights must join certain passport lines.

She was obviously not taking into consideration that a sizeable number of the vast crowd probably didn't understand English let alone her broad Australian accent.

That was far far worse than I have ever seen at a Thai immigration point, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it was abuse.

Sorry, but I wonder if the OP is looking to simply create a negative about Thailand.

All of my prvious trips my wait in line at passport control was not more than 5 minutes and I have always walked out through nothing to declare.

In August the lines at passport control were horrendous. The wait was 40 to 45 minutes. I started timing the immigration official for my line. Every Muslim man (it was fairly obvious because of the women with them) five minutes. Their wives and children one minute each. Each western man took one minute.

It was all done very politely, quietly and orderly but the length of time it took for the Muslim men was not lost on the obviously irritated women in in their parties.

Beyond that I have never seen abuse of any kind although I have only 5 trips there so far.

I get singled out, questioned and searched every time I come through SFO now. I think that US customs is among the worst and I am an American but I always make it through. It is just a delay.

I never personally have been abused by any Thai Immigration Officer. I personally fine that when you approach them do it "Thai style". Smile and greet them even if its only "Sawadee". Better still if you try to speak Thai to them. I remember having 2 Immigration Officers in stitches after I spoke to them in Thai with a dreadful farange and Isaaan accent!biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Yeah I was abused. Arrived on time but there was no red carpet, no fanfare, no welcome comittee and no welcome cocktail (with obligatory umbrella in the glass). I had to queue with all the others. Nobody asked me how I was feeling after a long flight. They had the gall to scrutinise my passport to make sure I had the correct visa. They dared ask me questions. And they took my photo without asking first. Oh, this is another nail in the coffin for Thai tourism. I shall leave and never come back.

Of course many people have been abused. The proof is the other thread started by another complainant a few days ago. He too was abused. :)

I've gone twice a year since 1998 and don't believe I've ever been abused. I got stopped once

by thai immigration when I was returning home, due to my passport got wet durning Songran.

I got taken to a back desk and the guy just said, replace passport because it will not be accepted

if I return and off I went. I've traveled all around Europe, Asia and US and frankly I think the US

customs is the worst and I'm american :)

The only issue I have with Thai Immigration is that a) They are not armed, and b ) They don't shoot the packs of f^cking Chinesse who push in front of you in the line... :) ...

Would be nice if they were smiley and all, but in reality, I just want to get through and out to the Taxi touts as quickly as I can...

Cheers,

Daewoo

Could we have a poll on how many times you have arrived at Suvarnabhumi, you have been abused by the Royal Thai Immigration Police.

Abuse.

If you are not happy with your so-called 'packs of f--cking Chinese'..(racist).. :) why don't you do something about it., instead of complaining.

FYI, I always make it a point to tell these q-jumpers even if I am in CHINA....and whether Chinese, farangs or aliens...

Indians do it too. 1 person queues while the others loiter until he hits the front. Very annoying and I avoid queues with these groups nearby.

Yeah, racist, thats me... my best mate is a muslim Paki, and only about 50% of my mates are white... many of my mates are Chinese... maybe I should have written 'packs of Chinese f^cking queue jumpers', either way, the f^cking bit referred to the action of queue jumping, not the act of coitus by Chinese in the imigration queue...

Where's that sarcasm emoticon when you need it :):D:D

I have done something about it... I use the Diplomatic lane :D:D:D ...

Okay, you're not racist. You're just low class.

Glad we got that straightened out.

Apart from the fact that the OP is a troll, I do notice that I only spend a few seconds at Immigration whereas my wife (Vietnamese who does not need a visa) gets the 3rd degree (talk about racism :D )

And I must agree that certain nationalities are bastards when it comes to queuing, came back from BKK on Monday and sure enough the same scenarios as described above: a couple of people from the sub-continent in front of us, just as they reached Immigration, another 30 or so of their family/friends/whatever joined them :)

Ho Ho Ho, another outburst of racism or just low class rhetoric:lol: still can't get over with it :D

This is how I also do when encounter Q-jumpers...tell them if they want to jump-Q, go ahead but not in front of me and it always work. They would Q behind me then it's up to people like you to do something or nothing about it...you got to stand up for your right.. :D

I find Immigration at the Airport fine.

Never had a problem.

In fact, my wife(Thai), kids and myself (Brit)usually go straight to a Thai passport counter without bother, sometimes the people directing arrivees send people with kids to these channels also.

We went to the UK this year and , although we all had Brit passports other than my wife, we had to wait in the non EU channel,,,and that was with kids...with only 1 officer on duty compared to the many servicing EU passport holders.

Could,nt wait to get back home here in Thailand,,,,,and went through the Thai Passport channel again.

You will only get hassle if you ask for it.

What do you want from the officers? A kiss on the cheek or what?

Worst immigration I have experineced was the land border crossing with Peru/Equador,,

this is about as true as you can get... everytime I arrive at LAX from Thailand, I'm treated like a wanted criminal, porno star or pedophile... I have never been abused any where else in the world like at LAX... Swampy is nothing...

I pass through BKK about a dozen times a year and have never experience anything even remotely akin to abuse. As an American, I have never failed to experience anything but competent and friendly processing. You want abuse? Just go through any American international immigration/customs check point. Of all the airports in the world that I frequent, the worst possible insulting immigration officer behavior and abuse is in America, followed closely by Britain.

LOL I confirm that I have never been abused by Thai immigration, going in and out of the country several times per year. Not sure what the OP is trying to say. The only problem is that sometimes not enough immigration officers are in attendance, which means that not enough windows are open which means a queuing time of half an hour or more, but that is random. At other times, there are only 2 or 3 people in front of me. I wish a short queue were the standard.

You're an APEC citizen, unlike me. But then, I just purchased a voucher allowing me to queue where there is no queue.. It cost me I think about 1,000 Thai-miles. Well worth it.

Could someone explain what 'SWAMPY' relates to. I see it written often, I assumed the Airport was built on a SWAMP am I correct or way off the mark.

No. It seems it is only you having a problem. Did you offer him ( or give him ) a free character assessment as you breasted the counter ?

So basically the guy showed you a sad movie, hypnotized you, smacked you in the face and finally tried to sell you a timeshare in Benidorm and a couple of rocks of crack. :)

Sorry but I had a Chinese jump in front of me and when he invited his whole family to join him, I kicked his carry-on suitcase out of the line and I went before him. I think he got the message quite clear with no words being exchanged. This isn't China, even though China owns half the country and they can wait in line like everyone else. I am quite sure he would not try that trick on a caucasion westerner again.

The end :)

I really think that Swampy could improve a lot especially with the immigration. With the queue, it can be a lot fairer if they introduce a maze-like queue rather than straight queue. Apart from that, a cute smiley telco-customer-service-like staff would be awesome too. There are plenty in the city. =0
