Just wondering how everyone in Thailand deals with letters that are still being sent to their home address in their home country while they are living here. Not everyone will still be receiving letters of course if you have been here for many years.

I have been in Thailand now for 7 months and still have a house back home, This means that I still receive many letters from insurance companies, local council,investment firms etc. etc. At this time I have arranged for mail to be sent to a friends address and he scans and emails letters to me from time to time. Not a foolproof system but cost effective and ok for the time being.

I have asked all companies to forward mail to me by email but many are not yet ready to do this. Which is a shame as it would save them substantial amounts of money and certainly make my and my friends life easier!

What if anything are others in a similar position doing? Would love to hear any good ideas that others from any countries are using. I am from Australia so if any Aussies have any good suggestions fire away mates.

Thankyou so much for your reply. If you would care to read my post properly you would note that I am looking for suggestions from people from all countries not just Australians. It is simple commonsense that my fellow countrymen may have more local knowledge with which to assist me.

My sincere apologies if my post was difficult for you to comprehend! Perhaps I am at fault here in not making the post more clear.

I look forward to helping you in future if you need some help and I promise I will read your post properly and offer assistance if I can.

I've been here 4 years I do the same thing as you. I just don't trust confidential mail coming out to Thailand. However, I had to give up California as my tax base in order to save money on U.S taxes. Now the goverment has my Thailand address and they are sending some junk mail here. Nothing I can do about it. I prefer keeping a U.S. mailing address.

I would have to assume that you're country has mail forwarding services just as the US does. I used a US company that did a great job for a fee. I contracted with them for about 2 years and they sent all mail to me as I directed. They were able to offer a mailing address in the US that appears as a home or office and could accept deliveries of packages and such.

Before moving here, i changed my address with the post office, so all of my mail would be forwarded to someone i could trust. (my mom :) ) If it is something of importance she will forward it to Thailand, but most is just junk, so it goes in the recycle bin!
