You can get an original Garmin City Navigator Southeast Asia NT that includes a Thailand map on microSD card. Alternatively, there are numerous Thailand maps on the internet for download to a microSD card. Have you looked on Amazon for a Thailand map?

Mea culpa. I done wrong :)

If you are interested in purchasing genuine map from ESRI I can assist you and help in making all the process on-line. The Garmin map for Thailand costs 4.500 THB. By purchasing the official map you will be allowed for 1 year free updates (1-2).

If you are interested, pls. send me a PM

Some of the TV members use Sygic (google pls.), which can be purchased via iTunes and seems it works for them. No personal experience but I read some reviews and the users say that the software has nice interface but may have some troubles in routing (calculating the right route).

The OP wanted a Thailand map on SD card. I assume that his Nuvi 200W already has some kind of map in the internal memory. As far as I know, an original ESRI map comes with a CD and not on microSD card. The ESRI map is an excellent map of Thailand, but unless the OP is in Thailand it would be difficult to obtain and load into his Nuvi without him having to modify the internal memory contents. If ESRI now has their map available on microSD card, then by all means get a ESRI Thailand map..

Garmin City Navigator Thailand NT v9 on microSD card is available off the internet for 39.00EUR. This should be the latest ESRI map, before Garmin switched vendors to TeleAtlas. No guarantees on anything though, this map has been discontinued by Garmin.

That is one possibility: the other is to order the Garmin (TeleAtlas) South East Asia map on SD card by mail from the US, which is what I did. The price isn't much more: do a web search. You could then buy a basic Nuvi in the UK or US with the change from the 4500 baht (UK price currently as low as GBP 75).

The map from ESRI comes on a CD and it is in the form of .img file, which can be just copy&paste on the SD card. Lately ESRI names the file as "gmapsupp.img" which allows to use the map on the main memory or memory card.

This is not really a difficult process to load the map to nuvi. It can be done by uploading the map file to a server, and then it can be downloaded from anywhere using internet connection. Later just copy&paste a file into main memory (the original map may be overwritten - need to make a backup) or memory card.

Thai map for 39 euro does not sound very genuine.

@citizen33, the OP already has a nuvi 200W :)

Southeast Asia Map: it is a good option if you plan to change your gps any soon or simply switch the map between Garmin units. But... there is no update for this map. And if there are any problems you will have to resend the SD card to the shop you bought it.

The map from ESRI has free updates during 1 year.

Ah! no need to order from Amazon, eBay .... or anywhere else, it can be downloaded form the Garmin website ($149): http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/cache/off...B9A53077B2D3B58

Disclaimer clearly stated, nobody claimed the map was being sold by Garmin.

Well I've tried a few of them and can't go past the SpeedNavi package that came with the Mio GPS I bought some 18 months ago in Bangkok. I believe Mio and Garmin are compatable.

SpeedNavi is much more accurate, bi lingual, Thai or English text and it's library contains, amongst other things, accurately placed and most obscure dirt tracks, Wats, schools and other POI's in the middle of no where. Even had an isolated Farang bar tagged near where I live in the rice paddies, much to the 'Inn Keepers' surprise.

Yes, dear member, and the point I was making was that the OP could almost buy another NUVI as well as the TeleAtlas map for B4500, if he bought from the right places. The right place re price isn't the Garmin website: some of the US dealers are a lot cheaper.

(...) I believe Mio and Garmin are compatable.

(...)

They are not compatible.

It is much cheaper to purchase Garmin in the US than anywhere else. But still some customers prefer to purchase locally because of any possible troubles and warranty repairs. Also some like to have the Thai OS and the map in Thai for their spouse. GPS from import does not give support for Thai language.

Download from Garmin: that was just an information about the possibility of direct Garmin download option (without waiting for the mail and worrying if the customs will put some tax on it). I don't think this option is given by any legal dealer anywhere.

Going back to the subject, I wonder if OP already got what was looking for :) ??

Which map did you get installed, ESRI Thailand Street Map or Garmin City Navigator SEA?

Can be bought from Classifieds for 1500bht

may not be suitable for you but i a have both the esri and the rotweiler maps for thailand and having done two 4000+ km trips i now use the rotweiler ones.

they are not expensive and the support is very good

Really ?? The common opinion of these are they are a rehacked and relocked version of the 7.x series ESRI maps (same spelling mistakes and other clues). So at least 2 generations behind the current ESRI offerings.

I second that!

I bought a Thailand map on SD card for the Garmin GPS from MBK. Same floor as where they sell cell phones. Forgot name of store. When you exit Tokyu, turn left and go all the way to the end.
