Hi,

Yes, that's no problem, you could do that on a visa-excempt stamp. If you are going to study, you will get a Non-Immigrant Education Visa (Non-Im ED), which will be 3 months, extendable to 1 year thereafter. You will need a letter from your university, 1,900 baht and a trip to the Immigration office to change from tourist visa. You must have at least 30 days left on your visa to change it.

Thats cool!

So here is what i need to do,

1)Going to a university to get a letter from them (should i pay them any thing ? and what sort of document do they usually ask? )

and how long does it usually take until the university give me a letter ?

2)I need to go to Immigration office and ask them to change my Visa from Tourist Visa to Non-Immigrant Education Visa, and pay them 1900 baht and show them the university letter

Is that all ?

Here's what they usually need for the APPLICATION:

1) High School Certificate (or letter from uni if youre on exchange).

2) Passport Copy

3) Medical Certificate (can get anywhere for 400 baht)

4) Application Fee (maybe 1000 baht)

If accepted, you will need to pay tuition and other fees. Some universities require you to pay all, before you get a letter, others will give you the letter first.

Yes, that's it, then after 3 months, if you're still enrolled, you can get the visa extended to 1 year with another visit.

Is that all ?

It might be that the big universities can get you a 1 year extension, but it is definitely not possible if for example going to a language school.

In the latter case you enroll in the school, pay the tuition fees and they will prepare the paperwork for enabling you to get a non immigrant ED visa.

To get this visa you will have to leave the country and apply at a Thai consulate/embassy.

When entering Thailand again, you'll get 90 days, and every 90 days you have to go to immigration to get a 90 day extension. For which you pay 1,900 Baht, each time.

When you go and study in Thailand the school/university will help you with the papers to get an Educational visa, after you registered at the school. Withthese documents you go to an embassy or consulate in a neighbouring country for the ED-visa.

Normaly you cna not change from a tourist visa to an ED-visa, but if it is a real university you might give it a try. The university will know best. Language schools etc. always have to apply for the ED-visa outside of Thailand and can't convert.

Sorry, MRHammer. But your information is incorrect.

To convert from a tourist visa or visa exmt entry you need at least 21 days left of permitted to stay in Thailand. If immigration allows it, the conversion is 2,000 baht. More and more immigration offices don't allow you a conversion and wil send you to Bangkok Immigration.

In case of an educational visa, you only stand a chance if you rgister at a well known Thai university, like Mahidol. In most cases you have to apply outside the country.

One of the requirements of being able to convert your visa status is to qualify for a 1 year extension.

Which in general for education is not possible (again, the major universities will probably be able to do this)
