Immigration Office With Overstay?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I know I have not been an active poster here. Sorry to come here begging for help.

My Tourist Visa expired today. And idiot me I FORGOT to get an extension.

What should I do? I leave Oct 5 in 2 weeks. I have no problem paying the 500 baht a day if it leaves no blacklist on my passport. Or should I go to Immigration in the morning and try for an extension a day late?

I've been coming here a long time and this is the first time I messed up. Will this factor in my favor?

At this time I am planning on being at the Jomtien immigration office in the morning with money and a smiling face. is this the best plan or should I just go to the airport and fly somewhere cheap roundtrip?

HELP

Go to immigration tomorrow. Be polite to them and tell them you are sorry you forgot to apply for 30 day extension. You may not be charged the 500 baht overstay fine. You will need completed Form TM7, photo, 1900 baht fee and copies of your passport photo page, visa page, entry/permission to stay page and your TM6 departure card.

Thanks. Are you pretty sure they won't throw me into the monkey house :) I don't mind a fine but dayum. I really have an aversion to sleeping in a room with 20 other guys :D

You will be fine. Immigration see it happen all the time :)

chai yen yen, chai yen yen.... you won't :)

I was in the Phuket immigration office a few days ago when a young English lad boldly walked up to the officer near to me and very confidently said, "I need to pay for three days overstay and I'd also like a seven day extension". Brazen to say the least, I was expecting that he receive some form of reprimand but no, the officer just smiled and happily obliged. Later, outside the building, I met the young lad in question and told him that I though his was a pretty gutsy approach - he laughed and said he had been rehearsing exactly what he was going to say all morning. Funny.

OK, let me fill you in on the outcome.

My Visa expired on Saturday 19 and today is the 22nd Tuesday. if I had showed up Monday no overstay.

I arrive at the Jomtien Immigration office at 8AM. They open at 8:30 so I was first in line. When they open I walk in and get my number. Obviously I get called up right away. The officer figures out that I am overstay. I say yes, I was ill yesterday. I was hoping maybe I'd get a break since I was only one day late for no penalty.

After a bit of back and forth between them they tell me I am 3 days overstay. Well, I can't argue even if 2 of those days were the weekend. My tough luck. I get dinged for 500 baht a day. Plus the 1900 for the visa extension (30 days). I am out of there by 9:10 with no issues all legal and happy. Couldn't write about it earlier as I was able to make my golf date and had a good day.

Thanks for the help. :)

Good to hear you got your extension ok. I await my christmas card ... :)

Well, it might be a VIRTUAL Christmas card and bottle of Black :D

But I do appreciate the boost to go in. I was madly considering the airport and a roundtrip flight to Singapore :)
