Help! Tourist Visa Application Question

Featured Replies

Hi everyone-

I arrived in Thailand for travel in June on a 60 day tourist visa from the US. I extended this the additional 30 days in Bangkok, then went to Cambodia and Siem Reap for a few days before returning to Thailand and receiving my 15 day visa. This visa is about to expire and I want to return to Thailand again to meet a friend for another month of travel.

My question is this- Can I fly to KL and get a new tourist visa there as an American citizen, or can I only be granted that from my home country? I did come here a few years ago from Australia on a tourist visa granted in Melbourne, but I want to clarify the process. Do I need an onward ticket and proof of funds? I know the KL embassy has different info posted so just want to get it all right the first time.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

You can leave and return by air and get another 30 day stamp (Not a Visa)

You can leave and return by land and get 15 days.

You can visit a neighbouring Thai Consulate and apply for another 60 dayTourist Visa. Still free of charge at the moment.

Thanks!

Just want to make sure I can apply for the 60 day visa in KL. Have read some of the other forums and you apply between 9:30-11:30 one day, pick up between 2:30-4:30 the next with no fee. Is this correct? Want to make sure I allow myself enough time in KL to get new tourist visa done...

Yes. Apply day 1, collect day 2.

Appreciate the help.

Anything else I should be aware of for this trip? Have booked my flight leaving Bankok for Kl and back, no outgoing flight yet for leaving when visa runs out. I was able to leave overland last time with tourist visa, so don't think that should be an issue. Proof of funds? Will I be asked for that in KL?

And can anyone recommend a good place to stay while in Kuala Lumpur? Doing the budget travel thing, nothing flash needed, just a bit clean and safe. Any suggestions of what to see or do besides wait in line for a new visa on such a short trip?

Thanks again people. Nice to hear info. from the horses mouth than from countless contradictory websites...
