Can I Renew My Tourist Visa Early

Featured Replies

But can I? My husband needs to go do his check-in (he's on retirement visa) and it would be helpful if I could renew my tourist visa at the same time...I'm only about 20 days into my stay. Do I have to wait until the 2 months has passed?

You should ask at the immigration office. Some offices will do it this early.

When you are at the immigration office, you could also ask about the annual extension of stay as a dependant of your husband, who is on a retirement extension. To get this dependant extension for yourself, you probably will have to go and get a non-O visa from a Thai consulate, return to Thailand and apply for your annual extension, but you could ask the immigration office if they will change your tourist visa to a non-immigrant visa. This change of visa is possible for other types of annual extensions but not usually for a retiree’s dependant extension.

Is she talking about extending (instead of renewing) the visa for another 30 days?

Yes, that’s what I figured. There is no renewing, really. Either you go to a Thai consulate (outside Thailand) and get a new visa or you go to an immigration office (inside Thailand) and get an extension of stay.

that extension of stay is based on what day?

30 days extension from the day the 60 days TV expires

or

30 days extension from the day you apply for it in the immigration bureau

???????

30 days are added to your current permitted to stay time. You lose nothing by doing early.

Extension of tourist visa gives additional 30 days tagged on to permission to stay date.

An extension is always from the day your current permission to stay ends. When applying early you don't lose any days.

tanks for the info

Yes, thank you very much! I have tried and tried to get immigration to grant me a longer visa - we live here, for gosh sakes - even made a special trip to BKK on the advice of a CM imm. official, to no avail (so far)...I keep hoping though!

You have to take a copy of husbands passport with his extension of stay in it; along with proof of your marriage. Go to a Consulate outside of Thailand to obtain a non immigrant O visa. When you return with that Immigration can provide a dependent extension of stay under provision 2.20 of the current police order 777/2551.

You must have a non immigrant visa before Immigration can do this.
