Renewal Of Non Immigrant Visa

Featured Replies

Hi

I will soon be travelling from South Africa to Phuket on a 3 month non-immigrant visa. I have been told by the Thai embassy here that once I am there I can renew the non immigrant visa.

My questions are as follows:

1. Once I am in Thailand, how quickly can I renew this visa? I heard you can only do this in the last 30 days.

2. Can I only renew for another 3 months? Again I heard that you can renew for an additional 9 months. If it is 9 months then what justification/documentation will I need etc?

3. How much does the renewal cost for either 3 months or 9 months?

Thanks for your help

You have been misinformed. No visa can be "renewed". You either obtain a new visa or you extend your stay. To extend stay you must have a valid reason and meet the requirements. On what basis was your non immigrant O visa issued? With that information we may be able to provide better information. But normal extension of stay reasons on such a visa entry are retirement over age 50 or marriage to a Thai or support of a Thai child.

Sorry I meant to say extend rather than renew.

The initial Visa is issued on the basis of a letter confirming that I will be investigating investment/business opportunities in Thailand for a group of investors. It would not be an problem to get a follow up letter confirming that I need longer than the initial 3 months.

So how quickly can i apply for the extension and for lown long can I extend?

Thanks

You can not. You do not appear to meet any published criteria for extension of stay and would only receive 7 days extension of stay from Immigration.

Thanks for the feedback. What would you recommend as the best criteria to apply for a non immigrant visa in the first place that would allow it to be extended? Can a non immigrant visa be extended?

If I can only get a 3 month non immigrant visa which cannot be extended what would I need to do to stay longer in Thailand?

Thanks.

You have to have a valid reason for stay to extend a non immigrant visa - see pinned items at top for forum/useful information and follow link to police order 777 which is the current list of requirements.
