Most do up to 30 day in advance, unless there is a reason you have to do it earlier, like if you are planning a trip abroad and need to do it some earlier.

You won't lose any days by applying early. The extension will start when your current permission to say ends. It is only safe to do it early, in case you need to show additional documents.
