October 2, 200916 yr I know there a lots of quiz nights that have cropped up in Chiangmai and you can go to one almost any night of the week. I think they are fun, I meet friends regularly and it keeps the grey matter ticking over. I don't go for the prize money but rather the socialisation and chatting to friends regularly. Thursday, I like The Irish Pub's quiz, it's 100 baht a team, the atmosphere is good, Greg is a good quizmaster, the prizes are food and drink vouchers for 750 baht, 250 baht and a jug of beer plus a jug of beer triers award. There's always lots of sport on the big screen to watch at the same time. I have a soft spot for The Olde Belle on Tuesday's and I can't understand why more people don't go? They have three prizes, food and drink vouchers for 600 baht, 300 baht and 150 baht, which I think is quite generous considering it's free. I think the owner puts together a good quiz selection, which gives all people a chance. Tuskers is on Monday and its a fun evening, quite relaxed in a nice garden setting - the cost is 20 baht per person and all money collected is re-distributed to the winners. Chas normally has a good selection of brain teasers, though most of the music questions rule out us oldies. I haven't been to The Pub on Huey Kaew Rd. Anyway, the question is - what's your favourite quiz night and why? And if you have suggestions how owners can improve their quiz nights, why not put them down as I'm sure this gets read. Thanks
October 2, 200916 yr Author Oops - forgot The Garden Bar every last Wednesday...or is that 3rd Wednesday in the month?
October 2, 200916 yr They never ask my favorite trivia: what 2 songwriters wrote Steppenwolf's Born to Be Wild and The Pusher? No wiki cheating....
October 2, 200916 yr They never ask my favorite trivia: what 2 songwriters wrote Steppenwolf's Born to Be Wild and The Pusher? No wiki cheating.... I know that one. Rodgers and Hammerstein, right? From the hit musical 'Oklahoma', if I'm not mistaken. Or was it 'Annie get your gun?' I always get them two mixed up.
October 2, 200916 yr Next question ! When did you become an ignoranus? Is the answer in Wikapedia? I hate finding stuff in my 12 volumes of Encyclopedia Britanica. I found "anus" but that doesn't answer the question. And I found "ignore" but that doesn't answer it either. Maybe I should just ignore anus.
October 3, 200916 yr Keep meaning to go to the music quiz at The What. Anyone here been? who? at The What?

October 3, 200916 yr Tuskers is fun if you can stand the smoke. Some of us couldn't. Have you got asthma or an allergy? I'm a non-smoker but have no problems at Tuskers, since the quiz takes place out of doors / Priceless
October 3, 200916 yr Lucky for you, Priceless. You are probably in the majority on this. But for others, indoors or out doesn't much matter when someone else's smoke drifts your way. (I say someone else's because the stinky stuff used to annoy me even when I smoked!) Maybe that's why there are a lot of outdoor non-smoking areas. Anyway, I sure hope this thread doesn't jump the tracks. Quiz nights seem to bring a lot of people together for great fun.

I was just genuinely surprised, but I do know that I am rather insensitive to environmental irritations like that. Maybe I also wanted to point out to people who have not attended, that Tuskers quiz nights are not of the smoke-filled speakeasy variety / Priceless

October 4, 200916 yr Yes; Hoyt Axton wrote both Steppenwolf ANTI-drug songs, including Snow Blind Friend. He starred as the mad inventor-father in Critters 1. His mother co-wrote Heartbreak Hotel. Added: all of which is trivial.
