Im Going To Marry In Los - How Do I Go About ?

Featured Replies

Hiya,

after being on Non-B and Tourist visa for a few years, I finally decided to officially marry my g/f (in fact the Buddhist marriage ceremony took place 2 yrs ago already).

Actually Im on 30 days extended stay, which will expire on October 23th.

As you guess it, the paperwork for the marriage registration at the Bang Rak District office will not be ready by that day, as Im still waiting for my non-marriage certificate, which will be sent from Germany.

Therefore, I went to the new Immigration office in Pak Kret yesterday to get some help.

The friendly officer behind the information desk advised me to apply for another Tourist visa in Vientiane.

However, as Im on my 2nd TR visa already, Im afraid of having my application rejected, given the crackdown which is going on. In fact, the officer in Pak Kret is totally unaware of the TR visa situation ("You can apply for as many continuos TR visa as you like to").

May I apply for a Non-O, citing my planned marriage with a Thai citizen ?

If yes, what kind of documents do I need to produce ?

If not, is there any other way to get a 60-90 days visa until the marriage certification process is completed ?

If you could get Non-O visa on the basis requested, the current problems over back to back tourist visas would be solved forever ... :)

Are you over 50? If so you may be able to obtain single entry Non-O visa from KL with a chunk of money in the bank. Or go to Vientiane and apply for another tourist visa. Reports to date have not indicated anyone being refused a visa, but some have members have had warning stamp put in passport.

During the last 30 days of your permission to stay you can then apply for extension of stay based on marriage, if you meet the requirements. Requirements being 400k in Thai bank account in your name for 2 months prior to application or 40k/month income (your income).

What a strange idea...

If it is the first time....you have an excuse. You do not know yet.

If it is the second time...well...

You can obtain a one time 60 day visa on the basis of visiting Thai spouse.

That should give you sufficient time to collect all the correct paperwork regarding an extension based on marriage.

Thanks for the advice.

I will try to obtain that 60 day visa over in Vientiane at the end of the month.

You will get a TR-visa in Vientiane unless you have the red warning stamp.

What he meant was that you can get a 60 day extension from Immigration to visit your Wife. 1,900 Baht.

He does not have a wife so that 60 day extension is a non-starter. A tourist visa from Vientiane should not be a problem and should provide enough time to get the marriage done - then the 60 day could be used if more time required.

Or why not just play it easy for once and look for a RetirementVISA and solve your problems.

Maybe you do not meet the requirements???

65.000 baht BRUTTO every month confirmed by your embassy????

If you have that, Do not go for marriageextension it is just so dam_n complicated!!

Well, Im just 35 yrs old, so the retirement visa is not an option.

The reason to go for that marriage extension is that in case I will relocate to another (western) country, my wife can accompany me without any hassle.

My wife is rilly my soul mate, so I do not want to live without her.

Cheers
