Rimmer
Pattaya, 3 October, [PDN]: At 5.00 pm, on 3 October 2009, Pol.Lt.Col. Tanagrit Lapittisan, Pattaya police investigator was notified a tourist had been found dead in the room number 101, at a guesthouse located at 504/497, Soi Yensabai, South Pattaya, Moo. 10, Nongprue, Banglamung. A police team and the Sawangboriboon foundation rescue service were immediately dispatched. The police team inspected the room and found the body of a man, later identified as Mr. Gerhard Maximilian Langner [59], a German national. He was sitting on the floor in the bathroom with his head in the toilet with its cover placed over his head. The police found no evidence of a struggle or any signs of foul play. They presumed he had been dead for about 6 hours when he was found and his death may have been related to a medical condition as they found some medicine in a bag, which was kept as evidence. Officials questioned one of the regular maids, who said that Mr. Gerhard was a regular customer of the guest house. This time, on the 2nd of October, he had informed the guest house staff that he was on the way to Pattaya to check into the room but he had to stop first at the Lamchabung International Hospital urgently, due to his congenital disease. The police were told that the doctor had asked Mr. Gerhard to recuperate in the hospital, but he refused and left to go to Pattaya, where he checked into the guesthouse at 10.00 pm. The guest house staff said they had telephoned his room to check if he was okay, but he did not answer the phone. They then went up to physically check and found Mr. Gerhard dead in the bathroom. Initially, the police presumed Mr. Gerhard had died of a congenital disease. However, they have to wait for the results of the autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death. The German Embassy was informed accordingly. Source: http://pattayadailynews.com/shownews.php?IDNEWS=0000010572

Chang_paarp
How did the Police gather all this medical information so quickly from a room-maid? Does she speak German? Why would she have to know how to speak German? There are plenty of German speaking folk in parts of Pattaya. The whole line enquirey would take 2 face to face conversations and a phone call, not beyond the ability of the local plod.

oevna
How did the Police gather all this medical information so quickly from a room-maid? Does she speak German? Perhaps the German man could speak Thai (before he died, of course). It is unusual that a room maid would have known about his arrival plans though, but it's possible that she had talked with the other guest house staff about him prior to being asked to go check on him. In any case, it's sad that he died in this way. RIP Gerhard Langner.
