Which Airlines Can You Trust?

Blacklist

The first line of defence against potentially unsafe airlines is the Commission's blacklist - which details all airlines barred from European airspace. While largely composed of African and Asian airlines, there are also a number closer to home:

I noticed that Indonesia Air Asia is on that list. Are flights to/from Bangkok and Bali operated by Thai Air Asia or Indonesia Air Asia? Would that route be considered unsafe?

NOT less safe then other companies. As I know Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia etc. it not in question of maintenance and service of airplane, this is only a commecial difference by which easy can be seen the rentability etc. of each region. I believe AirAsia is very safe even low cost company and most of airplane are new Airbus. I fly monthly with AA and never seen happenings which make me bad feelings. :) - Some people claim "unfair" because of late departure and arrivals but most of time it is not inquestion AA alone, each routing need confirmation from destination that the airplane can also land at time and that there are no over trafik. To explain priority for landing have intercontinental flights, if some belated logicaly short flights go in waiting list for landing = mean too late start etc.

The EC's credibility is sitting on the edge of the toilet right now as a result of its response to the Airbus pitot static tube problems. Despite knowing there were problems related to the Airbus, EASA only ordered the pitot tubes changed last month subsequent to the AF tragedy.

Pointing fingers elsewhere is a nice way of avoiding serious issues at home. But then who wants to take on Airbus?

No more risk from one airline to another imho.

Statistics prove you wrong though. While some airlines may be unlucky, others have major flaws in their training, maintenance, and other areas which make them far more dangerous to fly.

Exactly. Yet I still don't see Air France on the list.

Bangkok <=> Bali is operated by Thai Air Asia. But Bangkok <=> Jakarta is operated by Indonesia Air Asia.

Are Indonesia Air Asia on the list because of a problem with the airline or because of a general ban on Indonesian airlines stemming from the industry not being properly overseen?

No, it's not all Indonesian airlines. The list specifically said that it included all Indonesian airlines EXCEPT Garuda Indonesia, Airfast Indonesia, Mandala Airlines, Ekspres Transportasi Antarbuena.

it is the plane - not the thai or indonesian office.

a malaysian newsmagazine - MALAYSAIN BUSINESS , WWW.BERITAPUBLISHING.COM.MY - recently ( SEPT 16TH-30TH,2009) talk about how airasia is cancelling/delaying orders for new planes apparently because airasia is cash-strapped.

the only thing one can think of is cut-backs on this and that.

result: shudder to think or even want to board one of of these planes after a thread here in

TV about how one flight wanted to take -off and the planes door could not lock -besides many other problems with this low budget airline that has flown to australia for barely two/three years. :)
