October 4, 200916 yr Just found some flights to BKK from Australia. Check out http://www.bruneiair.com/ About half the price of other airlines. Many flights return less than $600 Long (6-12 hour) stopovers in Brunei but you save $$$$ It looks like you get a free tour of Brunei on your stopover
October 4, 200916 yr I did a quick check, Brisbane to Bangkok & return, for October 20 / 27. Royal Brunei is AUD588 inclusive of taxes. Webjet have a Singapore Airlines flight for AUD517.00 inclusive of taxes + Webjet's fee of AUD49.90. Webjet also have a Qantas flight for AUD580.00.
October 5, 200916 yr Wrote it down a few months ago.. Thai, Singapore, Malaysia are all around 26,000 baht to Perth Royal Brunei 20,000 baht Air Asia 16,000 baht Tiger Air 13,000 baht All prices are with Tax... As I am thinking of going in March, prices may change, the big airlines offer Deals nearer date... The flight that was good was Royal Brunei 20,000 baht with 1 1/2 hour stop over in Brunei... Thai of course fly direct non stop.. At the time I looked Air Asia took 18 hours with stop over + there were conditions,, one being min stay in Australia was 5 days + could not book straight through, as they are/were a point to point Airline.. this was via Bali... Understand Air Asia have/are changing things so will look again in January as by then can book via a agent [when I looked you could only book direct with Air Asia]
October 5, 200916 yr Its people like Cross Bones and co who complain the loudest and demand all sorts of compensation when they get stranded in some remote airport for days on end. I would never buy one of those stupid cheap airfares with all sorts of conditions attached, particularly over the net.Pay the extra few dollars and fly direct with Thai or Qantas. No complaints.Cant stand amatuer travellers. All whingers!
October 5, 200916 yr I just got a ticket to Brisbane with Thai for 26,200 baht. Below is what my travel agent wrote: The fare on Thai Airline is 16125Baht plus taxes/fees/fuel surcharge 10075 Baht so total is 26200Baht and the flight seats are still available on those date/flights. However the best fares is flying with Brunie Airline but leaving on Oct 7th and returning on Oct 18th but one night layover in Brunei but the stopover is provided by the airlines(Meal, airport transfer, hotel room will be arranged by the airline including in the ticket price) The total price on Royal Brunei is 23,500Baht
October 5, 200916 yr air asia is by far the cheapest via KL. Also they have business class seats on the KL - Australia sector at about Bt 10,000 each way to Perth

Looking at say Air Asia, I ruled this out, must pay for meals, must pay for drink, must pay for luggage, then there in the long stop so must change money + what to do for 9 hours + must collect luggage + food + drink then must re check in.... time you have done/paid all this it comes up to Royal Brunei price, at least with Royal Brunei you book straight through, have meals, have drinks, on the flight date I was looking at + a short stop in Brunei... I have flown UK - BKK non stop, but mostly stopped in Germany or Austria, it is nice to have a walk around for an hour, and have someone different to sit next to for the next part of the flight.
October 5, 200916 yr air asia is by far the cheapest via KL. Also they have business class seats on the KL - Australia sector at about Bt 10,000 each way to Perth OK then ADD meal + Drink + Luggage, may just as well fly direct ? business class Bt 10,000 each way to Perth ??? Just checked online with a not to long a wait total cost is 26,552 baht BKK > KL > PERTH so more expensive then direct with Thai Air and almost 7,000 baht more than Royal Brunei

TAKEN IT TO AND FROM LONDON TOO! Good recommendation, must say. AIRASIA?????? iffy AIRLINE, MUST SAY -WITH cancellation OF THE NEW PLANES ORDERS AND delays IN SOME. THEY APPEAR STRAP FOR CASH TO UPGRADE AND THEIR finances appear to be tatters and many of their planes are OLD. read all about it "MALAYSIAN BUSINESS', SEPT 16TH-30TH,2009 ISSUE, AT WWW.BERITAPUBLSIHING.COM.MY. October 5, 200916 yr air asia is by far the cheapest via KL. Also they have business class seats on the KL - Australia sector at about Bt 10,000 each way to Perth yes, very cheap airline.....until one realises all the add-on costs including a cup of cheap unknown brand coffee or hot noodles at five times the cost of the same thing elsewhere and never served on any other airline. cheap eh?
October 5, 200916 yr Danger !!! Danger !!! They don't serve booze on Brunei !!! They used to let you give them your duty free and they would add mixers for you, but of course cannot take liquids in hand luggage now. And up to six hours at the dry airport between flights.

Good that is fine, don't drink booze, so as long as they have coffee that's great. Just checked there flights again for March.. 1hr 45min in BWN going and 2hr 35 coming back Total cost with tax 16,660 baht.. Edit.... Takes 2 hrs longer but 10,000 baht cheaper, then Thai Air direct.. Singapore and Malaysia both about the same price @ 23.688 baht + both have longer lay overs Edited October 5, 200916 yr by ignis
October 5, 200916 yr Well thanks guys for the tip, guess I must be one of those 'Amateur Travelers' then. I had never heard of Brunei Air. I normally go Airasia. Used to go Jetstar but after a huge F Up on their part I will never go with them again Sadly They are Quantas in disguise So i boycot them also (imho: plus Q is way to expensive for what they deliver.. who cares if they never had a fatal accident... theres a first time for everything) Thai air and some of the other ones like Cathay Pacific are awesome, But for me saving money is often easier and less stressfull than earning it sometimes. So depsite sounding ignorant, I thank you very much for telling me about Bruneiair It is cheap and worth at least for me a look into or perhaps a trial run. Cheers!
October 6, 200916 yr i do agree with your many keen observations, but aren't you coming down a bit hard on the low budget - usually as you rightly observe, first time travllers? yes, "airmonkeys....set up (these) airlines with junk bonds" and that's why the said "Malaysian Business" ,( sept 16th - sept 30th issue ) mentioned about the cancellations/delays in the new plane orders by one low budget airline. therein, one should note these old planes - or non-delivery of the promised new ones - on an 18 hours long haul flight may prove to be another flight of no-return as highlighted here in TV elsewhere about "The Sydney Morning Herald" and "The Age" although both the Australian newspapers were talking about a different subject matter but still on the topic of increasing numbers of Ozies' dying in thailand. Yes, paying that extra bit of a dollar will always be worth it unless one is on a sucide mssion or one's suicidal tendencies is coming on head-strong. Nothing beats Jetstar or even Tiger Airways but I am not sure the latter flies out of Australia to BKK. Besides , both these low budget airlines are linked to their national carriers one way or another unlike those of the other budget airlines linked to junk bonds type as observed here by "j..s..wong." October 6, 200916 yr or even Tiger Airways but I am not sure the latter flies out of Australia to BKK. BKK > SIN > Perth Return 13,535.00 THB with all TAX..... then ADD Baggage Fee + C.Card Booking Fee Stop over in Singapore is 1hr 40 min going and 5hr coming back Royal Brunei uses the Airbus A319 from BKK... from BWN to Perth Airbus A320 so a new fleet. Tiger Airways have ordered in April this year, 23 Airbus A320 no idea the age of the ones there using now Edit: Jetstar with baggage and all Tax via SIN is 14,829.70 baht......... They use the Airbus A330 Edited October 6, 200916 yr by ignis
October 9, 200916 yr I was looking to get down under on around the 20th (22, 23 dep - 1 nov return) This is what i can find today: Brunei Air : Bkk - Brisbane (via Burnei) 19530 THB Thai : Bkk - Syd (direct) 35185 THB Jetstar : Bkk - Syd (via Melb) 29264 THB Singapore : Bkk - Syd (via Sing) 29915 THB Emirates : Bkk - Syd (direct) 47470 THB I was going to be in both Brisbane and Syd so if I can get between them on domestic air for less than 300$ seems Brunei is best option (though Singapore is interesting) Anyone have info on a better deal?

Just checked online with a not to long a wait total cost is 26,552 baht BKK > KL > PERTH so more expensive then direct with Thai Air and almost 7,000 baht more than Royal Brunei But it is the fare for business class seats (without the frills) Economy return is very cheap and there are plenty of flights to KL, so there are no long stop overs. I think return economy to Perth about Bt14,000 by air asia with meal and 15k baggage. At the KL LCC airport for about Bt700 you can relax in the special lounge for two hours with free beer (as much as you can drink) also with free food and internet,
October 11, 200916 yr Air Ais is cheap but not unsafe The one to worry about is BA who code share withQF The cuts and morale at all time low
November 1, 200916 yr Author Reporting back on the Trip Royal Brunei was great!! I got a hotel for the stopover for $60 (4 star hotel) with free connections to the airport and breakfast and a free mini tour of Brunei thrown in for free. Second floor of the hotel was "hidden" with a nightclub, booze and Philippino girls!!!! (Brunei is meant to be alcohol-dry). $4 for a beer in the club and chatted up the girls working there (no action but that might have been a possibility) Brunei was NOT expensive as I had thought, even at the airport prices were very reasonable ($5 for a sandwich), $2 for a coffee. Brunei people seemed very nice, friendly and I really enjoyed the stopover. The plane seats were a bit hard (economy), asked for a couple of extra pillows which I sat on - no worries. The inflight entertainment system was broken and didnt work properly on one flight and didnt work at all on the other flights, but they did have drop down TVs from the ceiling which worked and had some interesting shows. The other flight was nearly empty so I got to lie down accross the seats in the middle and had a good sleep.
