Read about 4 topics now and it seems to be very difficult to give an appropriate answer to obvious serious questions.

Since there is only ONE new years eve Worldwide, we may assume the OP means 31-12-2009.

The Pattaya City Hall (or the people who occupy it) will organize a 5 day festivity at the Bali Hai Pier, with (live) music, food, drinks, lots of people and fun. The climax of the event will be the Countdown on the 31-12-2009 at 23:59.50"

Bali Hai?

From your hotel, take a bahtbus up to Walking Street. Get off the baht bus and enter Walking Street through the nice and bright "Samsung" sign. Follow WS until you exit under the old WS-sign and there it is: The Bali Hai Pier.

Apart from this event, there will be the normal New Years Eve festivities in the famous Soi's as usual. They're there every night.............

Just one word of caution, don't most hotels here charge for a compulsory New Years Eve Gala whether you attend or not? Certainly used to be the case.

Yes you are correct.

Many 'big' hotels in Pattaya demand a pre-paid New Year ticket which can cost anywhere between 5,000-8,000 baht.

This ticket will include a free international buffet (eat all you can) and limited free alcoholic drinks (gnat-piss-beer) (vinegar-wine) and (cocktail-devils-spunk).

Entertainment (musical band) will be provided and then a pyrotechnical display lasting 8 minutes will begin at 11.58 pm Dec 31st (always too early).

GREAT! :)

Apart from that, most hotels ask exorbitant prices for a night stay. Rates increase up to 300% of the regular rate.
