March 27, 200521 yr What do those little numbers mean? The first 1024 is my max downlink speed in Kilobits/second The second 256 is my max uplink speed. They are set from the provider side and show in the parameters of the router. Now can some one explain why I am currently uplinking mail messages and the speed shown by DU Meter is peaking in the range 400-600kbits/sec when my maximum is supposed to be 256k?? Thanks

March 27, 200521 yr I doubt that you have the right figures - TRUE and LOXINFO both have an Upload of 512 with the 1024 Download package. Also people do not use Uploading bandwidth very much (which is why it is lowered to give more download bandwidth) thus it will often run at maximum speed. The Download capacity is what other people sharing your ISP server are using, thus it often drops very low as it bottlenecks.
March 27, 200521 yr Yes, Huski,, an oasis in the world of broadband doom .... Yes, DU Meter sometimes reports downloads of 500+ kBytes ..... The maximum upload with 512 kb is actually around 50 kBytes (or 400 kbs).

They usually try to get a lot of customers first and wait until customer complaints are very strong. So the first ADSL users are a bit unlucky, the latecomers can enjoy speed .
