Cabinet nods for exchange of longans for armoured cars

BANGKOK: -- Thailand looks set to exchange dried longans for Chinese armoured vehicles under a scheme endorsed by the cabinet yesterday.

According to the Government Spokesman, Pol. Gen. Chalermdej Jombunud, the cabinet has agreed in principle to the barter trade project, which would see the government purchase dried longans from Thai farmers and exchange them with the Chinese government for 120 armoured vehicles, worth around Bt1.93 billion.

The government has already negotiated a deal for the sale of the longans to a Chinese company for around Bt2 billion.
