Hi all,

Just looking for a few opinions.

My wife is currently pregnant and due in April so we thought it would be good to have her sister over here (Australia) for support and some help with our toddler then we thought they could take the two kids over to Thailand to visit the family and spend a few weeks there then I would fly over for a week and bring wife and kids back to Australia.

We are looking into getting my wife's sister a tourist visa to come out. She is studying and works with the family and owns some land so I think we will be able to confirm she will return to Thailand after visit.

Now what I am wondering about is... Should we mention the pregnancy in our letter of support, as we will be covering her costs, thought it could be interperepted as we are bringing her here to work as a nanny but It could also be seen as proof for her to return to Thailand as she would be travelling back with my wife and the kids.

What do you think is the best aproach to this?

Thanks.

Shouldnt make a difference, I would stress the point of her coming over to support your wife at the time of birth rather then help with the baby

Mention the pregnancy - why not? She (your wife's sister) is coming over to Oz to see the birth of her niece/nephew and support her sister - nothing wrong with that at all is there? Dont assume that DIAC is going to think that she is going to work as your wife's Nanny. Unless of course that is your intention.

How long are you (she) asking for 3/6/9 months?? You are offering a letter of support/invitation. Don't fall into the trap that so many visa applicants do, and that is making a an uncomplicated application complicated.

Anyway best of luck with the birth and the visa application. Keeps is updated please

In the past 3 years we have "sponsored" my wife's niece and two of her sisters to visit us in Australia, all at different times. We have never worried about trying to explain why they are visiting just that they are family and wnat to spend time with my wife. The main thing I believe is that in all cases I provided Statutory declarations to the embassy that we would be providing all the support they would require i.e. accomodation, food, health expnses if needed etc. We also providee evidence of our ability to provide that support i.e. payslips, bank balances. That was all and every time the visa (3 month) was granted no problem. As I read somewhere on this forum don't make a simple task difficult or complicated and tell the truth, i.e. your sister in law is coming to visit to help provide support to your wife at this time.

Good luck hope you get the visa.
