I went to the a hotel in the centre of Ao Nang beach (surprisingly) and paid 1k bt for a room. Later I went for a shower and there was no hot water. Same several hours later. Mate stayed in different room and had hot water, no problem.

So in the morning I mentioned it to the wife of the foreign owner, and she just laughs. "No discount?" says I, expecting only an apology in return (TiT) and she laughs. I know it's a typical Thai defence mechanism, but it put my back up. I've stayed there before, and it was all good, and since then it's been sold and bought by a new owner from Scandinavia (I'm told). I really wanted her to say sorry, as it was obviously part of their renovation/handover/hotel improvement. I said I'd whack it up on the web, and this is the first of a few sites I'll be posting on. She continued to give me the "Do what you want, I'm still going to make money form the tourists, and you can FO" condescending smile. I did ask for her husband, but...

Call me anal, but all she needed to do was apologise. Not laugh sneeringly (I can tell the difference). So FWIW, I'd recomend not staying there unless you check your hot water when you check in. And I will be posting this on several tourist websites.

She just needed to be polite...

Perhaps this a big step for the woman as she is now owner of a resort in Krabi. This would change her status considerably and she most likely will not act perfectly for some time.

We hope she takes care of her new found business and husband and becomes a nice sort wit the customers.

I would not want to be her...bet you wouldn't either.

We have all had bad experiences traveling about and now I guess you know not to stay at this one. Good luck!

So where did your mate stay with the hot water and all?

The hotel is between the 7-11 and the Burger King cafe and it's called resort name removed, if memory serves. It has a pool and they are levelling the area at the bottom of the hill behind the place to presumably enlarge it. My mate stayed across the corridor from me and had to try three rooms before the electricity worked!
