Pentagon Federal Credit Union in the U.S. has had some of the best CD rates around, and also offers a VISA Platinum credit card with some of the better rebate features to be found...

Unfortunately, as of this Nov. 30, they are increasing their foreign currency surcharge on purchases made abroad to 2% (it has been 1% before). Not as bad as some of the real baddies like BofA, Chase, regular Citibank, HSBC and Wells Fargo, which are all at 3% right now.

But not nearly as good as Charles Schwab and Capital One, which are among those that still have NO foreign purchase surcharge on their VISA cards.

I have had it for years but have yet to use it here in LOS. With their 1.25% rebate, you could actually make .25%, so now that they are going to 2%, I need to find out if my backup credit card from Fidelity has a foreign currency surcharge. If they do, I will apply for a Schwab CC.
