Drug-crazed US tourist found hanged in hotel

CHIANG MAI: -- A US tourist was found hanged in the bathroom of a Chiang Mai hotel today, apparently after having taken a drug overdose.

According to local police, Mr. Jonell Anthony Fryler, 26, had already been dead for five hours when his body was discovered this morning.

His naked corpse was found on the floor, but evidence, including a mark round his neck, indicated that he had used his belt to hang himself from the bathroom door.

Although police suspect the death to be drug-related, officials will perform a further autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

How did he get from hanging himself to lying on a floor? Sounds nearly impossible since it seems the belt wasn't actually in evidence, ie they could tell from marks on his neck.

Has TNA started to look to the Pattaya City News for inspiration and to copy it's brand of sensationalistic journalism? Talk about a jump-out-at-you title and then one reads the article, it doesn't match. Where is the evidence he was

"drug-crazed"? He was simply dead and naked and apparently did so quietly. No crashing sounds of furniture. No witnesses to "screams all night" from his room. No yelling from rooftops before taking a dramatic plunge. To me, "drug-crazed" is the stereotypical yaba maniac with a butcher-knife next to a baby hostage's throat while ranting loudly and incoherently.

The TNA prints lots of stuff that just isn't true, or tries to make something from nothing, as John pointed out. Just in the last few months, I've seen half a dozen examples of what I call bad reporting.

I wish George would use a better news source...

Awesome how he managed to take off the belt after suffocation, Houdini couldn't have done better himself.

If this is from a source of information that is not reliable then perhaps it should not be posted here George? Perhaps you could check it out a little more with Ajarn and John and see if it's worth using them in future?

Drug-crazed US tourist found hanged in hotel

--->No evidence of a "Drug Crazed" person.

CHIANG MAI: -- A US tourist was found hanged in the bathroom of a Chiang Mai hotel today, apparently after having taken a drug overdose.

--->Found Hanged - So it was murder then, since he was hanged and not hanging?

--->after having taken a drug overdose - So he as overdosed, murdered and then committed suicide?

According to local police, Mr. Jonell Anthony Fryler, 26, had already been dead for five hours when his body was discovered this morning.

--->dead for five hours - So he was so crazed nobody heard him?

His naked corpse was found on the floor, but evidence, including a mark round his neck, indicated that he had used his belt to hang himself from the bathroom door.

--->naked corpse - Why do all suicide falangs always get naked first?

--->a mark round his neck - So he used his belt to hang himself from the door was that the attempt or the deed itself?

Although police suspect the death to be drug-related, officials will perform a further autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

--->drug-related - Hung from a door and from the bathroom, where does drugs come to play?

--->further autopsy - What, the first autopsy was done in the room?

---> exact cause of death Hung, Suicide and a drug overdose. We need to still find his exact cause of death? :o

Apart from the drug overdose, there is a possibility he may have changed his mind about hanging himself. By removing the belt he may have unexpectedly hastened his death.

This has happened to divers removing dry suits after a dive. The sudden rush of blood once the restriction around the neck is released, can cause death.

I’m not saying this is what happened, but it is a possible explanation why he was found on the floor with a belt mark around his neck.

Very unusual for CMX, normally the wife would be involved. Americans are not known for this behavior, they almost always cut the wrists. Pattaya okay even with a wire from a mobile phone charger around the neck. COME ON??? :o

Anyone seen or heard anything regarding the following

- which hotel

- which cop shop involved

- which morgue

- autopsy at hospital or forensics unit near Phra Singh?

time for some investigative and responsible reporting me thinks

(while looking at that luvverly new one year extension in the press pass) :o

Another loser gone, thank gawd

Real compassionate and empathic.....Thank gawd you are not the one that will

inform his family.....

Agreed - obviously none of these posters have spent the night in a Thai mortuary's reception liaising between the hospital, local police, family back in home country, off-duty consular staff, wailing girlfriend, and anyone else who wanted to know what happened.

Try it some time - it's real educational.

ITS A LITTLE SAD HOW PEOPLE LIVE IN PATTAYA ARE MURDERING, MOLESTING AND EVEN KILLING THEMSELVES... PATHETIC ... IT IS EVIDENCE THAT A BELT COULD HAVE KILLED THIS AMERICAN. THE MAN COULD HAVE STRUGGLED AND WENT UNCONSCIOUS AFTER HANGING HIMSELF, WHEN THE BELT WENT LOOSE...NEVER KNOW...CRAZY THINGS HAPPEN... THERE ARE MANY POSSIBILITIES FOR THE REASON OF HIS DEATH

drug overdose = suicide = easy done police report

no drugs = chance of murder = further investigation necessary
