Changing - Sata -ide- Raid In Windows Xp

Recommended Posts

I am running Windows XP, and I am trying a few new things out, I need to change the SATA Controller

from IDE to RAID , ive accessed the BIOS at boot up , went to advance , thinking I could find possibly

some thing like on board devices there, then see the SATA settings , when I get to the BIOS page I can't see

the on board devices any where..

This is a shot of this BIOS and the Advance option

When I look for the on board Devices option Its not there...

I am wondering what I am doing wrong ?

Get the manual for your motherboard it will tell you. I think you will need to do a clean install and when windows first starts the installation there is a option to load other drivers such as raid. You will need to download that driver from the MB manfacturer as well.

A number of points from your post.

First of all IDE and SATA are terms used to describe physical the connection to the drives. RAID can be done with either IDE or SATA drives.

Secondly if your motherboard supports RAID via the BIOS the option may be there but greyed out or hidden unless you have multiple discs installed.

I see from your screen shots the BIOS is an AMI BIOS from 204. Are you sure it supports RAID as this technology was not common in home PCs at that time.

Maybe you need an updated BIOS Check on your manufacturers website.

I think it most unlikely you need to do a clean instal of Windoze (or any other OS) The BIOS features are set by the PC from the BIOS chipp without any reference to the OS

Lastly it is possible that RAID supported from your motherboard is by a speretate driver and not the BIOS in swhich case it will have to be loaded from the suppliued disk.

Go to the next option "intergrated periphirals"

There will be an option either "onchip sata controller" (enable) and sata mode select (sata or raid).
