everydaysthesame
It means, just enough, just right or good enough. Hi, Thanks for your reply. I know what it literally means, but is there some other use for it when it starts a sentence? Sorry I am not explaining very well. Maybe I'll come back when I have a proper example. Cheers! Spacer
Kind of like something happening at the same time another event happens. Like, good thing (พอดี) you called just as I was walking out.
TheChiefJustice
Here are my (not literal) English translations of พอดี when used at the start of a sentence: 1. Well, as a matter of fact... 2. Actually... 3. Funny you should mention... I'm not sure what's wrong but I've been feeling like sh*t lately. Well, as a matter of fact I've also been feeling like a dog's breakfast. Was off work with the flu all week. katana
It seems sometimes to be used in the sense of 'just about to do something' eg from Google - I'm just off to Krabi. Any good places to visit? พอดีจะเปิดร้านนะครับ · อยากรู้วิธีการตั้งราคาสินค้า - I'm just about to open a shop. I need to know how to price the goods. ใครก็ได้ช่วยแนะนำทีนะค่ะ - I'm about to buy a mobile phone with a tv function. Anyone got any recommendations? sangfroid
พอดี can also mean "just in time" or in the case of clothes (pair of jeans, shirts etc) to "fit well"

katana
At a guess, I think PAW DEE JA พอดีจะ means you're just about to do something. Without the JA , means you've just done something eg from Google อยากถามคุณหน่อยครับว่าไปเอารูปสาวสวยคนนี้มาจากไหนครับ พอดีผมว่าหน้าเค้าเหมือนรุ่นน้องที่ผมรู้จักคนหนึ่งอ่ะครับ - Where did you get that photo from? I was just thinking she looks like a young girl I know. พอดี ผม ไป ซื้อ หนังสือ มา 2 เล่ม - I just bought 2 books. ไข้หวัด 2009 อาการเป็นไงครับ พอดีว่าผมเป็นหวัดเริ่มตั้งแต่คืนก่อน ตื่นมาเจ็บคอมาก ๆๆ แต่ไม่มีอาการปวดหัวตัวร้อน - What are the symptoms of swine flu like? I just came down with a cold last night. Woke up with a very bad sore throat but no headache or fever.
Briggsy
"As it happens" I find it is sometimes used to preface and/or soften some crap excuse as if the happening were just some fluke and nothing to do with bad planning.
lboonl
พอดี sometimes we put this word in the beginning of the sentence because - we feel that the event we will talk to is happening or has just come about. - or we are going to do the event however, you can skip this word because it's on the lips of all Thais usually, you will encounter เผอิญ in the beginning. เผอิญ ~ พอดี are analogous.
