Visa Options For American, Curently In Bkk

Featured Replies

Yes i have read and searched many, many posts and threads, but keep hearing different things about red stamps, different countries to go to,etc. every time i think i have a plan, i read or some one tells me something different or a new country to apply in or a new way to apply for visa. it gets so confusing.

Current situation: I am on the 30 day stamp that you get when you arrive at the airport and it is running out. this is my third time in thailand this year, all other times have not exceeded 30 days and i have never applied for a visa.

What I want to do: Stay here for an additional 6 months on tourist visa, then after the 6 months, apply for a work permit.

current plan was to go loas by plane, walk into the embassy and get a double entry, then use the 30 day extension in bkk. then after that 90 days, go back to laos and do it again. Shouldn't get any red stamps doing this? can i come back to thailand once i get the visa in laos, right after i use up all of the remaining 30 days only that i have now? any problems with this? can i renter thailand as soon as i get double entry? any better way do this? should this be a tourist visa double entry? or non O double entry?

when I am working 6 months from now, the work should take care of the work permit? do i pay for the fees of the work permit? but will the current visa situation i will be hopefully on (double entry visa of tourist o non O immigration) affect the work permit status?

thanks any help or info is appreciated

There is no reason you can not obtain a two entry tourist visa from Vientiane now - enter for 60+28 and then 60+30 for second entry taking care of six months. After that you will have to check again. A work permit is only issued for a qualified job from a Thai company and a non immigrant visa will be required at that time (application of work permit/company paperwork). But to get to that time Vientiane two entry seems to be best.

thanks for you response. so what your saying is, it makes no difference that i "used up" my 30 day stamp on arrival in bkk for the application for a tourist visa in vientiane? basically they overlook that i am already in bkk for 30 days?

Until they decide to give you a stamp that you should not come there again there should be no problem getting a two entry tourist visa under current policy.
