Administrators of Pattaya City Hall stated that other than the high sea rising, there is also the problem of drainage in the canal of South Pattaya, which is the main drainage into the sea. The canal is already very narrow and there is also the problem of private buildings building things into the area of the canals - adding garbage and silt clay to block the canal - not allowing the water to drain easily. This is why every time when there is rain, a significant cause of overflow and flood into residents' homes.

Latest, deputy mayor Weerawat Kharkhai and authorities involved went down to the south Pattaya canal area for inspection. They found that along the canal, which is approximately 2 meters wide - there are a number of private operators building bridges, and other building construction vertically on the canal. Some operators also have concrete pillars or wooden wedges into the canal - blocking the water.

Deputy mayor Weerawat Kharkhai stated that the inspection was made difficultly since some buildings block or lean into the canal. After sending out specialists it was found that 12 major operators are definitely causing the problem.

Going through document work, it was found that these operators have been sent notifications on the matter since July 2008 but none have taken any action to the warnings and authorities have also neglected the duty to push them to do so accordingly.

Now an order is being prepared to the 12 operators to remove the canal blockings within 7 days or else the authorities will do so themselves according to law and they will also be charged for the proceedings.

Believe this story relates to an earlier one about flooding.

Deadline day for illegal constructions to be torn down in South Pattaya.

Pattaya, November 12 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : On Thursday Morning we joined Khun Wirawat, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya as he conducted an inspection of an area of public land which had been illegally built on. Despite official notices issued to those residing at the location to remove the illegal constructions which included two bridges, no action had been taken, therefore on Thursday city technicians began to deconstruct the bridges themselves. Further legal action is expected to be taken against local residents who took it upon themselves to build on public land without the relevant permissions.
