Hey

Some friends of mine will be in Bangkok for the NYE and will go to Kho Lanta

What is the best itinerary (saving time and money ) for them as they will only be staying two days there before moving to another island?

Do they have to ride the buse /train to Trnag then to Kho lanta and how long does it take?

thanks

If I were them I'd fly to Krabi and then van or ferry it from there to the Island..the whole trip takes around 4-6 hours. Buses and trains are all overnight affairs and the trip can't be done in anything less than 14-16 hours that way. Air Asia flies to Krabi and if you book now the flights will be cheaper than in December.

I am not familiar with the location of these islands as I barely stay out of Bkk when I am here but I had told them I'd rather fly to one spot and from there go to other places before returning to their port of Arrival/departure

I gues it is a wise advice

Out of interest I just checked the prices for Air Asia flights at that time and a return flight will be around 5000 baht..a lot more than I thought when I originally replied to your post. Having said that it's a much easier way to get down there.

I hope you have a nice trip, Lanta is one of my favourite places in Thailand and well worth the effort/cost of getting there.

Thanks for the update

As a matter of fact, it will cost closer to 7500 baht return (tax inc.) but I think that they will choose this option, this way they will enjoy their time in Thailand as they are not staying very long

It might be cheaper to fly to Phuket and take the ferry to Koh Lanta from there.

The ferry will take approx 4 hours and I would guess it will be busy though.
