Hello,

Last time I entered Thailand on a tourist Visa I had a one way ticket. Somebody told me this is illegal.

Anybody know if I NEED a return ticket. Would prefer to get a single and keep optons open.

Thanks

Back in July I flew to Thailand from HCMC on a one way ticket and the girl at check in, THAI, was about to refuse me when I pointed out the tourist visa thence no promplem.

However in early October I checked in at LHR on the return part of my ticket and the check in staff never even queried the lack of visa, it was me who volunteered my onward ticket and they were totally unfazed by it.

Immigration at BKK have never, visa or no, asked to see any onward or return ticket, seems they rely on the airlines.

All the airlines are aware of the immigration requirements for Thailand which are detailed in the IATA database, to which they all have access. Immigration does tend to rely on the airlines to act as ‘policeman’, because the airlines are responsible for the cost of passenger repatriation if immigration denies the passenger entry to the country. But immigration can ask to see onward/return ticket if entering on visa exempt entry should they so desire, as well as the 10k per person/20k family living funds, but agree this is rarely asked for.

Providing you have an actual Visa you will be OK

If you do not the airline may not let you on the flight.

But to get a turist visa you must give a copy of a round trip ticket to the embassy, in italy at least....

On VOA the airline will never take you.....

I asked if any flight out of Thailand would be enough and the answer was yes, so next time i'll wait for the international return and buy a cheap airasia out of thailand.

Embassies can be difficult to deal with because issuing visas is regarded by them as a low priority and often they will put barriers in the way to delay/prevent issue. Best to deal with an honorary consulate where possible, whose sole purpose is to issue visas and who tend to be more helpful.

I have been to Thailand many times without a return Tkt . never had a problem. I have always booked on line or called in Emirates airways office in Bangkok and booked.

But did you have a visa? If so, no problem. If not, the airline ran the risk of being fined and having to pay to repatriate you in the event that you were denied entry into the Kingdom. Most airlines, understandably, won't take that risk.
