My Dog Has Hip Dysplasia And Needs A Fho

Featured Replies

Condition - hip dysplasia (HD) -The Price of US Vets has gone out of sight!

Do I wait until I get monies for operation?

Then wait for a short recovery before I come over,

or treat with medication and not do the FHO?

or have it done in Thailand.

Additional info: He is a 7year old Rot/Chow mix. About 65 lbs. Had HFO on R leg in 08. Did great.

Started to limp in Aug of this year. Xrays showed he has alot of bone spurs and bone growth above the socket.

local Surgeons say they don't have the proper size tools to cut away the extra bone growth? Claiming a normal FHO

only requires cutting a portion of the femur head but this would need (To do Properly, different tools of different size).

more specialized tools?

They say I need a Board Cert. Surgeon or Orthopedic Surgeon. I check Assoc.'s by country and didn't see any Vet in Thailand.

1. Are there any Vets with these qualifications in LOS and what would approximate fee be. (Sight unseen)

2. If I treated with medication, long term - a. Deramaxx b. Tramadol ?

I have 08 and 09 xrays on CD digital but I can't seem to be able to e-mail.

A pretty hard Question. Bina get you brain in gear! :)

Thanks

fixed dog in the title...

try the university vet schools in thailand? pm mangotogo (retired oz vet in thailand) for his ideas? frankly in israel there are few orthopedic surgeon vets, those that are, are also large animal vets (therefore have different size tools) and they also cost a fortune; not sure i can help u with this...
