November 3, 200916 yr Hi All I currently have a Multiple entry 1 year Non-immigration Education (ED) visa obtained at the Hull Consulate in the UK. I am a UK citizen. I am wanting to work in Thailand and so obviously need a work permit which hopefully the company i want to work for will help me to obtain as my friend is one of the owners. Here's my question... My visa expires on 22nd Dec 2009 which is obviously quite soon. I believe i can get a 90 day extension on this as long as exit and return to Thailand before the expiry date. I have checked this twice with Immigration at Bangkok airport during this year and they agreed. Do i need to do anything special to get this extension or is it automatic when i enter Thailand? Can i still apply for a work permit whilst i am in Thailand during the extension period or is the fact that my Non-immigrant visa has expired based on the date within my passport a problem? Any advice appreciated
November 3, 200916 yr Enter before 22nd December and you will get another 90 daysI do not believe you can get a Work Permit with an Ed Visa.
November 3, 200916 yr You can obtain a new 90 day entry with a return before it expires - but if you can apply for work permit/have company paperwork it might be better to just go out and obtain a non immigrant B visa and return on that. You do not need any visa to apply for a work permit - but for the work permit to be issued you will need a non immigrant visa and do not believe it will be issued on an OA or ED visa entry.
November 3, 200916 yr Enter before 22nd December and you will get another 90 daysI do not believe you can get a Work Permit with an Ed Visa. OP won't be able to GET a WP on an ED visa but he can APPLY for a WP and once approved he has to go and obtain either a NON-IMM O or B visa abroad to get the WP validated. opalhort
November 3, 200916 yr You will also need to obtain Form WP3 (receipt for application for work permit) from labour department and take that with you to embassy/consulate abroad if applying for Non-B visa in the region, plus usual company documents. Edited November 3, 200916 yr by thaiphoon
November 3, 200916 yr Author Hi All Thanks for the fast replies. Does anyone know where the labour department is to obtain form WP3? A google search doesn't seem to throw up much? I am in Phuket currently.
November 3, 200916 yr First of all your employer will have to file an application for your WP with all relevant documents. Once the labour department accepts the application, which usually indicates an approval in principal, they will issue the WP.3 receipt which you will then use to obtain a relevant visa abroad. opalhort
