I want to get my teacher license but I don't have a bachelor degree yet. Will the MOE accept life experience degree that you can buy for 500$?

The Op has asked a question. Answers would be nice. Information would be helpful. Past experience is welcomed.

As far as I know the teachers council is still giving 2 year TL exemptions even to teachers who do not have a degree. Many schools in and around BKK require a degree. As you get out into the provinces many schools will hire you (legally WP included) without a degree, and will take your work history and personal references into consideration. Good Luck!

Thanks for the PDF download johnc! :)

Our Administrative Assistant writes to the Teacher's Council and they send a letter of waiver. Everyone has gotten the letter that we have hired.

We recently hired a person with an Associate Degree (less than a Bachelor's Degree). It was a particular skill we were looking for and I was surprised that he was granted a Work Permit--our area has been firm about the Bachelor's Degree.

The Teacher's License waiver letter was automatic, as I understand it.

I know someone with a Work Experience degree. He was able to get a job teaching in Bangkok, and get a work permit. I personally think Work Experience degrees are crap and an insult to those of us that worked our way through college/university, but the good news is that it may be sufficient. I don't know much about licensing for teachers, but you should at least be able to get a job.

Let's take care not to be too critical of degrees held by others. That is not the topic of this thread.

I have known a person who once got an Honorary Degree. In someways it was similar to a Life Experience Degree, but probably much more deserved. I don't know if an Honorary Degree would count for much either, but the life experience of that particular person certainly counted for a lot.

Since there doesn't seem to be anything like an 'honorary' teacher's license...let's stay on the topic.

It would be helpful if people post the region/area/province where they are from and what they have had to do to get their TL, it would be helpful.

It seems the onous is still on the individual school to check and accept degrees. The Teacher's council or the MOE don't seem to do any background checking. I know serval teachers with fake degrees and "life experence" degrees who have no problem doing their official paperwork. Occasionally you hear rumours that the MOE is doing a crackdown and checking into phony degrees, but that seems limited to Khao San road degrees. Life Experience degrees would be a safer bet, but it's still up to the school to accept it or not.
