Lcd Tv As A Monitor

Featured Replies

I plan to get a 32" lcd tv and a new pc. The tv won't be the main tv in the house, but WILL be primarily used as a tv. Cost is important and I was hoping to stay around 15,000B. Now, I realise that I'm going to have to spend a bit more, and have my eye on a Panasonic. There's also a JVC FULL HD for a bit more.

Fot tv use, I'm happy to get the Panasonic, but my question is....

Do I really need FULL HD for a pc monitor, or is HD ready enough? (the pc won't be used for anything special)

Cheers

Very simple, how much do you want to get on your screen?

Regular HD TV's have a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. This is slightly less then for example a standard Laptop LCD, which would be 1280 by 800 pixels.

Also with as result that icons and text will be rather big!

If you go full HD, you'll get a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, which means that you'll get much more on your desktop, and everything will be crisper as well. This resolution is what you'd probably get on a 23" LCD monitor, so with your TV being 32" you'll be able to properly read everything from a fairly big distance.

And now, with faster internet coming along, a fair bit of full HD material is starting to get available, believe me, once you've watched a documentary or movie in full HD, you'll never want to go back! It's absolutely stunning!

I have a Full HD Samsung 40 inch TV ... easily readable from a distance because of it's resolution. I won't go for a HD ready TV if you're using it as a monitor.
