I was an English teacher for 13 years and used to be embarrassed telling people.

I wonder how many people are actually proud of what they do.

Why would you be embarrassed? There is nothing wrong with being a teacher.

Edit: typo

I know there's nothing wrong with being a teacher in general but being an ESL teacher in Thailand has negative connotations. Most people, Thai and Expat look down on English teachers and after working in the business for years understand why.

^That is really sad. Glad you got out of teaching. Best of luck to you.

Thanks. I'm not saying I didn't like it BTW.

Teacher-negative threads are not permitted in the teacher's forum. I am sure there are people in all professions who have or lack self-respect about what they do. This is not a forum for focussing on those who lack such self-respect.
