April 6, 200521 yr Thailand expects millions of tourists for Songkran PHUKET: -- More than three million Thai and foreign tourists are expected to join the country’s forthcoming Songkran festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year, and generate more than six billion baht, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). This year’s celebrations throughout the country will be much grandeur than in the past, TAT's deputy governor for marketing, Juthaporn Rerngronasa told TNA. The largest celebration will be held in Bangkok. The organisers of the festivities have urged Thai and foreign tourists to dress in traditional Thai costumes during the events. The TAT has organised large-scale celebrations in other key cities across the country. Many people are expected to participate in these events during the festival. The earthquake on 28 March, which shook the South would not have any impact on events as there was no tsunami, Miss Juthaporn said. Most tourists also realise that Thailand has an efficient warning network, she added. --TNA 2005-04-06
April 6, 200521 yr Ahhh... good to see that NOTHING, not even a red alert government warning against nation-wide terrorism, dampens T.A.T.'s wild-eyed optimismic predictions... It's to the degree of being delusional.....

Wonderful, I have some new silk suits that I will wear over Songkran. Hope locals and expats appreciate them and don't chuck buckets of iced pi$$ over me.

April 6, 200521 yr The 'wee wee' kind. Its considered in some Songkran circles to be more amusing than throwing H2O. Edited April 6, 200521 yr by The_Moog

April 7, 200521 yr ...The TAT has organised large-scale celebrations in other key cities across the country....<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Anything special in Kanchanaburi? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> RDN, Yes, Singha is the main sponsor of the 2005 Songkarn from the 13th to the 17th April. 17th will be the “BIG ONE” BTW . , as most folk will do the BKK one and then partying after 15th in Kan. Pop round should you wish to and join us on “mini Khao Sam Road” (Meman Kwae Yai Road) just around the corner from the main cemetery. Starts from about the Kanchanaburi Water Works going north. ( See you in the Jolly Frog or thereabouts). That is where Farangs hang out BTW, due to all the Guesthouses me think. Then again, by the “Waterfront” (turn left at the main Police Station, go through the Kanchanaburi Gate, down the slope to where the two rivers meet up and hang a right) that is where Singha is sponsoring their duo, as they have done for a couple of years now. (Mostly Thais there) and me sometimes. Nice and not as bad as Pattaya gets. See you there then Yours as always Kan Win Edited April 7, 200521 yr by Kan Win
