November 11, 200916 yr Today I received a link to a complete new (at least new to me...) LIVE Aircraft Tracking system, just released but for the time being just in The Netherlands. I suppose the system will spread fast so that in the future everybody will be able to follow a certain flight number, including the type of aircraft, altitude, speed, location, engines, coming from airport, destination...... etc. Amazing !...... ...I just watched a plane (virtually) land at -11 feet/-3 meter (Schiphol Amsterdam Airport is below sealevel !) http://casper.frontier.nl/ created by this company: http://www.frontier.nl/ LaoPo Edited November 12, 200916 yr by LaoPo

November 12, 200916 yr I doubt this beeing real 'life'. Watched it for 8 minutes and only one airplane wihin AMS airspace ? And this beeing at 33,000ft ?

November 12, 200916 yr I'm not sure if God granted me a life in order to spend it tracking planes on a computer?
November 12, 200916 yr I'm not sure if God granted me a life in order to spend it tracking planes on a computer? Did he to post in internet forums ?
November 12, 200916 yr yea it's exciting for a few minutes, why no take-offs though. And would rather Heathrow or similar.
November 12, 200916 yr yea it's exciting for a few minutes, why no take-offs though. And would rather Heathrow or similar. - So much for Live tracking .....
November 12, 200916 yr I recall a similar website in the US before 9/11 - not sure if it would be allowed in this day and age.
November 12, 200916 yr Author yea it's exciting for a few minutes, why no take-offs though. And would rather Heathrow or similar. It does show take-offs! http://casper.frontier.nl/ * click on "display" - top middle * activate: smooth animation - show trails - always show labels - remember settings. If you refresh the page you will see all planes "traveling" at a 100x normal speed and than slow down to the present moment, including the landings and take-offs. You can also select the map type from TERRAIN to SATELLITE to DEFAULT and HYBRID. Next to that you can change the Color of the planes by: Airline - Altitude or Flight type. I think member asia_pilot is a little cynical about the actual live situation but maybe he should contact the developers and ask questions before handing negative comments ? I'm just the messenger about a new ( to me) development in the aviation business; but maybe asia_pilot has a better website for us ? Here's some more info about the CASPER system, where they write about present aircraft movements: http://www.frontier.nl/index.php?url=index.tpl&p =casper&p[lang]=en Bkkjames: I'm sure you wish Heathrow to be on the list, as others would like to see BKK, New York or Sydney. But it takes time to sell the program to thousands of airports and/or countries I suppose. Maybe you can send the developers a message and ask them if you can sell the software to Abhisit ? LaoPo
November 12, 200916 yr We've got a few of these at Alpha India Group. A group of flightsim enthusiasts.
November 12, 200916 yr Way cool, if we can integrate it into Flight Sim 2002 pro. Then no more AI traffic we can just fly with the real traffic. Must be a way to port that feed.
November 12, 200916 yr Author http://casper.frontier.nl/ About being live aircraft tracking: I was just watching the screen when I noticed an airplane (unknown airline) B738 / 737-800 flying almost over my head at 38.721 feet at 475 kts and HEARD it at the same time. No, I couldn't see it; too cloudy. That's amazing since where I live planes seldom cross the airspace. So, it must be rather "live". The moment I write this the plane is flying into German airspace in the east. LaoPo
November 12, 200916 yr Its just picking up the transponder info all a/c in the EU, North America and probably other countries insist must broadcast. With an airband radio, the right software and your PC's sound card it should work in Thailand. I'm pretty sure the a/c always have their transponders on irrespective of where they are. I remember following Thaksin's flight into Gatwick many years ago as it entered UK airspace. I haven't heard of a specialist name for this hobby is. I like the way they have coloured the KLM a/c blue. Edited November 12, 200916 yr by tso310
