Receiving Packages From Abroad

Featured Replies

Hi.  I know there are quite a few of similar topics, but I am in a bit of a dilemma.

A family member sent me a package from America, but she sent it to my home address instead of my parents' office address.

Sending things to my home address requires one to be home in order to receive the package.  So my question is:  Does Thai post leave delivery notifications?  If not, is there any way to figure out if this package was attempted to be delivered or not?

Thanks for your help.

They do leave delivery notifications.

They do leave delivery notifications.

They do?

I guess that is all I need to know, thanks.

Sometimes they do not. But yes, they are supposed to. For mail to my home/businesses, post offices grades:

Klongchan - tops

Chatuchak/Lat Yao - pretty good

Ladprao - professional all the way, but unfriendly

Banglamung - ranges between good and cr@p on a stick.

:)

For goodness sake just go to the local post office and enquire if the item is there. If it is just produce some form of identification and they will give it to you. Will be glad to get rid of it in fact.

but can't be wrong to tell the postman, normally they are friendly and helpful. But as always some nice people some ugly people......

Yeah, probably not a good idea to yell at your mailman for not alphabetizing your mail.

:)

For a signature required, they'll leave a notice. If it's been 5 working days or so since your estimated time of delivery, a trip to the post office is in order. Chances are it will be there, or hung up in customs. Signature required has a tracking number attached - I track mine from pickup through delivery. I'm probably jinxing myself, but I have never had a problem. That might be because everything that's sent from the States has my Thai wife's name on it, not mine.

I received a package from a broad, but I sent it back to her. :)

I've never trusted Thai mail in sending anything that looked like it might have come from a farang. Too much goes strangely missing. Any letters I send are on flimsey airmail paper and envelopes. The postal service scans anything that might have money inside.

They also use money sniffing dogs.

:) Heng, I had no idea you were such an authority on the post office. Just don't go postal on us, ok?

I receive notification if the package is too big to deliver, not if it needs to be signed for. My post man is great, can deliver stuff directly to my house when its only got my first name on it. :D

Make friends with your postie, you will be glad you did.

Well, you know what they say about know it alls...

I had once a higher postman coming into our office, as they got a letter for us and it was opened before delivery.

He promised full refund, only needed to know the value in it.

I can't recall what it was, either a sent back broken product from our customer = zero value or it was still in it?

He couldn't believe it that we tell we don't need any refund and ensured us that it is no problem and the Thai Post is trying hard to have a perfect service.

I trust my postman. But it might differ from branch to branch.
