mike_l Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Just got a call from a friend saying she's been trapped in the skytrain for about half an hour. It's stuck between stations (near MBK I think) and so no-one can get out. Anyone know any more about what's happened ?
mike_l Posted April 8, 2005 Author Posted April 8, 2005 Apparently this is resolved now, but they were kept waiting for about an hour. It was outside Siam Discovery, near where the train goes round a corner. Still don't know what happened though. BTW, can someone fix the typo in the title for me thanks.
george Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Update: Skytrain comes to halt due power failure BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Mass Transit System (BMTS), operator of Bangkok's Skytrain system, today made an apology to passengers who were struck inside the train last night after their train en route to Mor Chit station ground to a halt near Siam station. Dr Anat Arbhabhirama, advisor and acting chief operating offer of BMTS, said the incident occurred at about 9.00 p.m. when the train travelling from Siam to Mor Chit stations came to the halt due to power failure in the train. Passengers were later asked to board another train at nearby Rajathevi station to continue their journeys. He said repairs were made on the defected train and services resumed at 10.21 p.m. --TNA 2005-04-09
mike_l Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 According to my friend, many of the passengers onboard were quite scared by it. Certainly doesn't sound much fun, being stuck in an overcrowded carriage with no lights and no aircon for over an hour. Apparently during the whole time there was no communication from BTS at all apart from a one sentence apology for the delay, and when they finally did get out they were ignored by staff who were busy talking to journalists instead. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence as to what might happen if a more major incident takes place sometime.
alex100 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I just hope I am not on the one that eventually falls off.
fw1 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 So that would explain why I got on at Silom and the train stopped for a minute just before coming into Siam. There was then an annoncement that the train couldn't continue to MBK and was in fact going onto Mo Chit.
~G~ Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 A power failure of an hour long in BTS... 3 other incidents in the MRT... Which is planning to expand their network to be 291 km long in 6 years! Bangkok and vicinities. MRT Scary stuff.
