Goverment & Police Badges On Your Car

Recommended Posts

I got a neighbour who has 2 gold badges on his grill, mrs says they are some kind of goverment badges (probably bought them in the local market) also has a long police sticker on the back bumper.

Its a reasonably big clean car so obviously this is a ploy so the BIB won't bother him... just wondering what happens if he's actually stopped and the cops discover he is actually a pasty farang opposed to important goverment official ... fine him big or let him go in case is actually connected :)

Are you sure the badge is supposed to represent government or police? Most of those badges I have seen were for car clubs or other organizations such as Lyons club or Rotary clubs.

Then again, I know a few rich farangs here that are involved with the police and so maybe the badge is legit. They do the same thing in the states with the police stickers on the back of cars. I always ignored them and wrote the ticket anyway. I hate it when people that think they are above the law.

Whining about unspecified 'gold badges' on neighbour's cars - is this a troll? :D:)

whos whining....?? bet you have the same thing on your auto :D

Tbh i don't think the police back would be too keen if people started putting 2 ft police stickers on their back bumpers... probably illigal anyway, like most things in Europe..

actually i was curious about the same thing.... i assumed you had to have some connection to have them... and i'm sure they must have some effect of protection... unless its just a status badge...

strangely enough i have a friend who is currently highway police- they get rotated in duty- so will ask him...

Hmmm....I always reckoned those gold stars represented a high educational position.

:D The "Real Thing" is the sticker on the inside of the windscreen with your numberplate-initials on it.

For the Thai Navy you have to renew it every 2 years... police I don't know...

The onliest benefit we have from it is easy access to the base for cheap shopping :D ah, before I forget,

when on our way to Buriram the soldiers at the checkpoints near the Cambodian border saluting us :D .

No ocean, no river, no lake but the Thai Navy is responsibe to guard the landborder... only in Thailand :) .

When stopped by the police and nice smalltalk doesn't do the trick we pass over our 100 ฿ like everybody

else, except we have a passenger with a army-, police-, teacher- etc.- badge on board.

You can buy all those kind of badges and stickers at police uniform shops. They mean nothing as anyone can buy them.

Tallies with what I was told by the police uniform and accoutrements stall outside Banglamung nick. A big shiny gold police badge for your radiator grill costs 600 baht.

Those with esoteric sexual tastes can buy their handcuffs there. Attach your own fur. :)

At one time stick-on CD plates were very popular in the UK. The bobbies must have enjoyed asking speedsters if the drivers were the Mongolian Ambassador and Plenipotentiary to the Court of St. James instead of the usual "So where is the fire sir?"

Some of the notables ticketed by UK traffic police have included Princess Di, Princess Anne (on more than one occasion), the driver of the official car of the Home Secretary when he was a passenger, and the Chief Superintendent of the traffic division of the Gloucestershire Constabulary. BiB take note - if you dare.

I've had a Royal Thai Police badge on the grille of my car for a number of years. Usually you need to know someone in the police to get one, but it's not that difficult.

From time to time I get waved through checkpoints, but not always. Police never question why or how I have it so don't think it's illegal.

Maybe you were waved on because the cop(s) had been ordered to target speedsters, or bare headed motorcyclists, or people that walk on cracks in the pavement. They can't do two things at once.

You just need to know someone at a high enough level to get the badges for the grill. They are genuine badges for police-officer's private vehicles, presumably to let the BiB know not to bother them. (Better to know in advance that the car belongs to someone that can ruin your career before you pull them over...??)

In my case, it's the wife's friend's brother-in-law...

My wife has told me to say I'm borrowing my uncle's car, and that he's the police officer if I ever do get stopped.

can you say all that in thai ? probably easier just to pay the ticket , which most likely you'll get anyway, once they see your farang head...

personally, i think its looks pretty juvenile, putting badges and stickers on you car but each to their own i suppose... :)

I also have a sticker on my windscreen. its a pink one with the Army logo which says something about being an escort car for military personal. sometimes I get pulled in and then waved off sharpish, and others I still have to pay tea money. if I was questioned I would say its my Father in Laws car but I cant see it being iligal in the first place.

The Royal Thai Navy uses different colors for different ranks:

green= accessible Thai- civilians

yellow= low ranking soldier

red= middle ranking soldier

blue= high ranking soldier

violet= highest ranking

These are the colors I know, very possible that there are other

colors for the defense minister and members of the Royal Family.

Before 2546 you had to apply for a new sticker every year, since than,

it is every two years, the color remains the same, only the shape of

the sticker changes.

Normally you are only allowed two stickers, one for motorbike,

one for car/truck.

Mine was there on the grill when I bought the car. Someone in the family of the previous owner was a police officer, it seems. I asked for it to stay when I bought, coz I thought it might mean something. Must say I've got a parking ticket since then. Then again, one ticket for 1yr is pretty good for me, so maybe it actually does have some effect. btw, car's going on sale along with the badge! :) look for photos coming up soon on the TV classifieds if interested..its a BMW 316i

On the other hand, my wife's CR-V's got a sticker to the effect that it is owned by someone in the Royal guard (or whatever they call it), which actually does seem to have some impact...
