PM orders improvement of state intelligence

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has ordered the improvement of state intelligence to assist the government in efficiently prevent and address the problem of insurgency in Thailand's deep South.

Speaking during his weekly radio address this morning, the prime minister said that he had instructed Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Pol. Gen. Chidchai Vanasatidya and Defence Minister Gen.Thammarak Isarangura Na Ayutthaya to liaise with all agencies involved in intelligence, including the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and those under the jurisdiction of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, to improve the state intelligence integratedly.

"This is not only to assist the government, but also the Independent Commission for National Reconciliation and other agencies concerned in preventing and addressing the southern woes", Mr. Thaksin said.

Prime Minister Thaksin recently appointed the commission to jointly work out on approaches to restore peace in Thailand's southern border region, which has been plagued by the current spate of violent unrest since early last year, leaving hundreds of people dead and scores of others injured.

The 48-member panel comprises of experienced personnel from all sectors of the society, including those of the opposition Democrat Party.

The Thai leader said that he had also ordered security measures to be beefed up at airports and major public places across the country following last Sunday's bomb attacks in Hat Yai--the country's business hub in the southern province of Songkhla, killing two people and injuring more than 60 others in total.

Mr. Thaksin disclosed that he had also instructed the enhancement of law inforcement to accelerate the arrest and crackdown of suspected insurgents in the deep South.

In addressing the southern insurgency sustainably, the government will also improve education and implement various development plans in the region, according to the Thai leader.

The prime minister took the opportunity to call for Muslim youths in the deep South not to make themselves fall victims of masterminds of the southern violent unrest by being trapped by their distorted propaganda against the state.

If it is, it's a most inelegant one.

Now everyone read that again and then take a break and think about that. There seems some contracdiction here no matter what government ordered it. Kind of like Military Intelligence or ordering the rain drops to become larger.
