I am trying to change the water meter for my house from a thai name to my name( Falang).

At the water authority I have been told that they need a guarantee letter from a bank, guaranteeing THB 50.000. That is a hel_l of a deposit for a water meter. I that normal?

Thanks, everyone, I am pretty new to this forum stuff.

Why bother?

Both my electricity and land line phone are in the old owner's name.I merely went to the offices and arranged to have the monthly payments deducted from MY bank account..7 years ago...

You should bother, because if they feel inclined to claim their deposit, the water authority can and will take the water meter away, once the owner reclaims the deposit and puts an end to the contract, regardless of whom is staying on the premises. The same goes for electric meters and phone lines.

Am I the only one who read the headline as Watermelon rather than Watermeter? Then the shock of the 50,000 deposit ...
Sadly you are not! I thought it was an expensive watermelon thread. :) Just off to get a white stick.

The brain tends to do automatic filling in sometimes. Makes for some laughs anyway. I think with watermelons we would all lose the deposits ...
