Yahoo Mail Warning

Featured Replies

Hotmail has always been doing this of course, but seems like now Yahoo joined in this scheme - if you don't log in to your account in 4 months, they disable it. What's worse is, they delete all your stuff too.

I know this is new because I have an account that I check extremely infrequently and it's been fine for the last 6 years or so.

In a somewhat ironic twist - maybe it's a test how much of a sucker you really are? - they then proceed to offer you to join the paid-for Yahoo plus so that such a thing might not happen to you in the future. Yahoo plus is pretty cheap but honestly I am not going to give you money right after you deleted all my stuff. I mean - come on!

Use it or lose it what is the problem, if you take more than 4 months to check your emails what is the point of having it then?

Exactly. And you can just download your email to your own machine anyway.

The problem is that there was no warning.

Which is why I posted a warning here :)

Deleting a customer's data without warning is deplorable, IMO. One of the worst things a company can do. About you can always download... no, you can't - you can't after your data has already been deleted without warning, now can you?!

I noticed this the other day as well after not logging in for ages. Agreed that some sort of warning should have taken place.

They actually sent you a warning.....YOU just failed to log in to read it :)

You can't consider yourself a customer, can you? You are merely a user of a free service, and the company is only bound by their terms of service, which I'm sure always specify that the terms of service can be changed at any time and without warning... :)

I understand the need of a temporary, anonymous or 'trash' email account from time to time, but if you have any important data you should always have a backup. It's a very basic rule, even your hard drive could crash any time.

Was that a hysteron proteron?

Warning: time waster :)

Seems to me common sense. I've 4 email accounts {2 free/2 paid} and log-in regularly regardless of activity.

best comment on this thread, thanks! :D

Interesting how everyone thinks it's just hunky dory to delete a user's data. Your opinions are noted. Obviously I didn't have anything super important on this account - I didn't trust Yahoo to begin with :D
