Hi,

For the past week I've been getting a CPU Fan error every time I reboot and have to press F1 to continue booting on my Asus motherboard

Has anybody had this error before? Is this serious enough to consider getting a new PC?

Bit of a ponder this because my CPU is a 2yr old quad core that is passively cooled with a huge heatsink instead of a fan. The only fans are the ones inside the PC case

My PC has not been moved or anything. Do these CPU heatsinks degrade over time?

The PC has not been crashing and is acting normally. I have been expecting crashes so have backed up all my data just in case

Cheers

Normally you can switch this off in the BIOS. It tells you if your fan does not work anymore what is good if you have one. But yours never worked :) . Perhaps the battery is a bit old and the BIOS lost the settings.

Sometimes the settings get corrupted and the computer goes to default setting which include checking the fan. If you don't know how to change it you could get someone to it will take less than 2 mins to fix.
