Yes, that is the correct pronunciation. I suppose in that context it might be ok, but I have only ever heard it used in a very rude way, or in jokes.

Would you use "krap" when simply talking to your wife? I was under the impression that it was more formal than everyday conversation with someone very close and familiar.

No, good point Harcourt! I only use ครับ with my wife when I'm being sarcastic (which is quite often actually!).
