Is There A Limit To The Number Of '30 Day Visa Exemptions' In A 12 Month Period?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone - firstly, apologies if this is a repeat question but I've gone through numerous posts and can't find the specific answer.

I'm an under-50 UK citizen currently living in Philippines. I wish to go to Thailand in January 2010 for an undetermined period and do not have any current Thai visas.

I understand I can get a 30-day entry on arrival under the 'Visa exemption' practice. My question is if I wish to stay longer, is there a limit to the number of border crossings you can do in a 12 month period. I anticipate travelling between Philippines and Thailand during the course of 2010.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

No restriction - but airline could be a problem as you need onward travel tickets within 30 days to use 30 day visa exempt entry. Immigration will not be checking but often airlines do.

Your airline may not let you fly to Thailand without having either a return ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival to use 'visa exempt' entry or being in possession of a valid visa. Your best bet is to apply for a tourist visa at your local embassy/consulate which will give you a 60 day permission to stay. The visa is currently free until 4th March 2010.

There are currently no restrictions on entry by air from surrounding countries. 4 back to back crossings at land border is likely to lead to immigration questioning what you are doing.
