Hi, was wondering if there are an Australians who may have had any dental work or any other procedures done in Thailand and if so can you claim some of the cost’s back from Medicare and your Private Health Cover?

I need to get a root canal and crown done on a tooth A.S.A.P :)

You can't claim dental work on medicare at all let alone in Thailand. Why don't you ask you health insurer, after all they are the ones who make the decision. If you don't have health insurance already they are not going to pay for a pre-existing condition anyway. I just had 1 extraction, 2 fillings, 1 crown 1 root canal and 2 bridges done for under 50,000 Baht, might work out cheaper than you think, also the dentist offered to charge to my credit card in instalments which I did not worry about.

Thank you for your reply, I have an idea what the same procedure will cost me back in Australia and have emailed a few places in Bangkok. I have had a few replies to my emails and they have all said about the same price 13,000THB fr a root canal and crown, cost should not come into this, I just want to find a dentist that will do a good job, so I don't have to keep going back to get the problem fixed every time.

I have private Health cover back in Australia which also includes dental cover, so should I be still able to get something back from them once I produce a receipt from the treatment?

Seems rather odd asking the Thai Visa forum a question you should be asking your health insurer! You will no doubt get plenty of answers to your question but the only correct answer will be from the people you are wanting to reimburse you - The health insurer.

Just believe anyone on here and get the job done and try to claim it back later.

Thank you to all who have replied, I appreciate everyone's reply, I know something like this shouldn't be an issue, cost wise, just wanted to know that was all.

If you don't ask questions you don't get answers, I've only lived in Thailand for 6 month's so am learning things every day.

I just telephone my Private Health Cover provider back in Australia and they have advised me that I am not covered for procedures outside Australia, my only cover would be in the form of travel insurance, which of course I don't have. :)
