Question About Returning To Thailand

Featured Replies

hi all,

i have a straightforward question about coming back to thailand and is more out of paranoia than anything as im sure it isnt a problem but just thought id check anyway.

last time i was in thailand i brought a poster i bought from russia into the country which was of stalin and the 'peace' slogan on it. i attempted to mail it to myself back in australia so i wouldnt have to carry it with me but found that it was confiscated and i only received the other poster that was in the tube.

so my question is, is there a law against soviet memorabilia in thailand? is it a punishable offence? the reason i ask, is i certainly dont want to be pulled up at the airport when i re-enter the country and thrown into a jail. i'd rather just not visit ever again.

anyone know for sure, or can ask a thai person that would know?

thanks.

Your being paranoid. Stop it.

How do you know it was "confiscated" and not just plain stolen?

Thailand is full of political imagery from all parts of the political spectrum so it's difficult seeing the Thai authorities confiscating anything. Maybe it was Australian customs.

One of our room is full of original Mao memorabilia bought in China... Now they are selling copycat either around Khao San or Chatuchak :)

And what about Che Guevara tee-shirt, do you think that you could be arrested for propaganda by wearing one of these?

Agreed with "gotlost"... just plain paranoia :D

Stolen by a Red shirt supporter (to show their true colours!!) :)
