My Dtac "service"

This afternoon I ran a check on the "speed" I am getting here.

Weekends, I can't even get a connection.

Early mornings say 1.00 AM it seems to improve a little, but still not practical.

I use a Nokia (model 5800 Music Express) to connect.

I checked to make sure the connection was OK, using the IE browser and it

reported there were no problems with my connection.

I have complained regularly to Dtac, but nothing ever changes.

It's costing me literally thousands of Baht per month!

Sometimes it takes hours to even check my email because it's so sloooooooow.

I have a number of websites, but it's impossible to do much with them.

Everything takes so long, so I'm forced to stay on-line for hours instead of minutes.

Back home in Oz, I can work fast and get a lot done in a short time.

I wanted to upoad an image showing the details

that I want to send to Dtac , but it wouldn't work, the program thinks I have logged off...

So they reckon I am on 460.8 Kbps (wouldn't that be nice ..)

I was on for 1 Hour today about 3.00 PM

I received 2,024,160 Bytes = 0.5622 Kbps

I sent 754,736 = 0.2096 Kbs

Can anybody give me advice on what to do?

If you are paying 1000's of Baht every month means you never subscribed for an internet (GPRS) package.

Unlimited with Dtac costs around 1000 Baht/month, that's for 24/7 access. Call their customer srvice number and ask, then can tell you what is available. Without a package selected you pay 1 Baht/minute!

Speedwise, well, GPRS/EDGE is not exactly lightning fast! The 460,8 kbps you see is the connection between your modem (or phone in your case) and your computer. Theoretically that would be the maximum speed between your modem and the internet as well, but in Thailand they limit this to half that (4 timeslots instead of 8 timeslots, avoids their cells to get overloaded).

What signal strength do you get? The speed of mobile internet is highly dependent on having good signal. Loose one block on your signal strength indicator can see your speed go down significantly.

Only advise would be to try out another provider (AIS or True) and see if they perform better. One area might see Dtac work fast and AIS slow, and in another area it can be the other way around...

DTAC gprs costs 200bht a month for 100 hours access

So not sure how you are spending 1000s

As said, never subscribe to a package and you pay 60 Baht/hour (+7% vat on top of that).

That's a cool 1500 Baht for just 1 day non stop connection!
