Calcutta - A Visa Run Option?

Featured Replies

Happy Father's Day

Any thoughts or facts on doing a TR visa run to Calcutta?

I found KL expensive and S'pore would likely be more expensive (although the A/Asia flights I looked at were almost a thousand baht cheaper than BBB/KL return) so I thought about taking Mon-Fri and going a little further to see the only big Indian city I haven't seen.

I expect the airfare might be a killer though.

RAW.

Kolkata is a wonderful city. No idea about the Thai embassy but the airfare should be about 10K baht return. The food is excellent provided you can handle Indian cusine...

Enjoy yourself,

Colin

Jet airways (direct from BKK) will cost you about B8-10k return to Calcutta.

Calcutta (Kolkata) is a nice city. I flew into Bangkok from there last year. I'd suggest getting a pre-paid taxi to your destination from inside the airport. I stayed in Sudder Street, which is the backpacker district. It's ok and fairly central.

Also, don't forget many (most) nationalities need a visa for India, not a cheap or particularly quick option.

I got a tourist visa from the consulate in Kolkata last year. No queues, no hassles. Took two days - hand in passport and application form the morning of day one, get it back in the afternoon of day two. Prices similar to elsewhere.
