Fly to Vientiane airport where you both can have visa on arrival. Need to fill in form, have photos and passport, plus fee. I have heard Laos much more stringent on visa issue. Is there anything else needed? We were thinking of going to Udon Thani and go to the border from there. I assumed we could get visas on arrival there. Has anybody here done that? I had to pay more for myself, but not a problem, my wife just sailed through. Just a point, Thai's tend to get the "Farang" price in Laos. Also change your money at a bank, the exchange rate should be about 250 kip to 1 baht. Street exchangers will rip you off. Don't forget you have to stay overnight in Laos for a visa. So you need to be careful. Also not all businesses accept Baht.
