No you do not get married. You just register the document/translation that shows that you are married at the local District Office for the record. Just as you can do the same at some Embassies (UK for sure) that gets it on the register in the UK.

lop, read my earlier post, the registrar at our local amphur said that registering locally would be effectively registering again when the Abu Dhabi thai embassy has already registered the marriage...indeed their marriage document that they issued to us is entitled 'Certificate of the Registration of Marriage'...seems like there's a national database that all the thai embassies plug into...

anyway, the local guy said that registering locally cannot be done and it makes sense...just hope it makes sense to the folks down at immigration when I go fer my extension..presuming, of course that the bloomin' khor sor 2 is required by them in the first place...

Those with a foreign marriage go through the same drill and do indeed register the marriage document at the District Office. He may be making an exception because of the Embassy original document - or he may not understand. But registration of the fact that you have married overseas is not the same as a local marriage registration (with certificate issued).

Hopefully immigration will accept your document as all that is required. Not everyone has been asked for extra document but it does seem to be the trend.

Hiya TW

Why not arrange for / request an interview with the local Imm. office superior to try and sort it out, before you have to visit and time it a bit before you actually need to, visa wise that is.

At least you will know one way or the other what you may have to do, if he / she ok,s it, you can then refer the outcome along with a name if you are challanged on it.

If not ask for the alternatives and follow them through.

IMHO and not meant to be critical in any way.

Just a thought, I certainly would do this if it was me.

Just posted the following short post on it.

Just maybe, before your extension runs out there is a shift in the local office requirements and you can get the renewal extension for another year.

Perhaps Lopburi or someone can / will take a look in detail at your last post and put it in context, re the rights and wrongs and offer advice accordingly.

Let just hope something shines through and you can get it sorted before you have to renew.
