I have just found some time to look at my Itunes library and I have several thousand duplicate songs.

I know I can delete them manually but am wondering is there a faster way of doing this?

Thanks for any help.

There is but not through iTunes, which is great for shopping but pretty mediocre in every other way.

Download Media Monkey. It's free for all the important functions (you can pat for some extra features which are nice but not essential). Build up your music database (fast) and use the search duplicates function. Now delete at your hearts content.

MM also has great auto-tagging features using several sources to download the tag ad cover info. It can then rename and reorder your entire music collection in pretty much any way you can imagine.

Afterwards you could delete all song info from iTunes and rebuild the iTunes library from scratch for a clean start.

However MM can also be used to sync with iPods and iPhones, so there's almost no need to use Apple's monsterware anymore.

Give it a try, it is the best music library administration software i have found since MP3 came to the scene.

Off topic a little - but concerning itunes/duplicates, the problem I have is not with the software as such (even though MM is indeed FAR better!), but I seem to get duplicated albums on my ipod? Itunes will show just the one particular album loaded in, but on my ipod I've got a few cases where I've got 2-3 copies of it? No real drama, but it is a little annoying...

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

W. :)
